Well that didn't work!!!

Having changed the coils and leads and having thought that i had solved the problem the misfire has returned. I went for a drive this pm and for a short period the misfire returned it then stopped as quickly as it started. When it was misfiring the car was backfiring like mad (just when i went past a school that was turning out, so they must have thought bonfire night had come early ).

So my next thoughts are that the HES has gone a bit flakey. Do they just fail or have they been known to fail intermittently? I know JohnW finally solved his ignition problems by changing the HES after changing the coils failed to clear his misfire problem but i just wanted to get others owners experiences with HES problems.

Maybe you've got moisture in your fuel. Is your drain next to your fuel filler un-bunged?

When my HAL sensor failed,

It was totally random, but it came a long more often and then eventually became a stutter...

since you can get them dirt cheap in bag fulls now, I'd consider changing it. . . .

had one for about 5 years Doug waiting for the moment. Now is its time!

I think you can get some stuff from Halfords that gets rid of any moisture in your fuel without having to drain your tank.
Shame I didn't find out about that before this little escapade happened!

I replaced my Hall Sensor this week, and although I thought the car was running ok before, I had a lot of scatter from the timing light.

After replacement the scatter's gone, I got my base timing spot on and the car is much smoother, particularly at low revs in low gears.

Went out to start on the HES today and noticed that the manifold heatshield has broken in half. The half that is under the CAS is broken off and had wedged itself halfway down the engine block. I'm wondering if the heat coming off the manifold has affected the HES/CAS. I only really had problems at low speeds and when the engine had been running for about an hour. Anyway I will replace the heatshield and HES but the trouble is whether i can get it done before Donny
