It does graphs too. I find them much more useful than the figures it can output.
The pic shows what Elanscan will export to Excel. I have played about with that but not found a use for it.

Don't worry, it will make more sense when you see it, especially if Geoff is there to show you what the curves & figures are trying to tell you.

Some people think of Elanscan as a cheap alternative to Tech1. It isn't. Elanscan is much more useful.

What are people's views on chipping S2 cars? I so want to want to keep my car as original as possible, but it pains me to say that I think the ELAN S2 is desperately slow! 200BHP will be just the job I think and stop me from struggling to waste MGF's... The mountain chip looks ideal.

To chip a really nice original car or not? That is the question.
Would it put you off purchasing my car? I think it would myself...

Chipped my S2 a while ago, and loved every mile with it eversince. This is definately a "GO!"
You keep the original as well, so you can always restore to OEM when you want to sell as original.

Any potential buyer needs to be educated about how the chip works i.r.t. other performance upgrades...
If they don't understand, sell with original chip and leave the mountain out....

Installing/removing is quick & easy too. It takes about 10 minutes.

Any power upgrade can put unnecessary strain/wear on the engine/drivetrain, to me this is the allure of unmodified cars. Put it this way, if the Elan were in warranty, this upgrade would most certainly void it, therefore claiming that a car is unmodified/original by replacing the chip before sale is IMHO misleading if not fraudulent.

That said, if you do go for it you'll see the benefit (although I cant fathom why your having trouble with MGFs), just make sure you plug it in the right way round

Ha, ha... I'll make sure eveything gets plugged in the right way from now on!

I am honestly finding the ELAN slow... When you overtake you run out of revs and then have to change gear and start again. It just doesn't give the poke I'd like. Especially if the car you're trying to pass gives a bit of welly too... I think it's third gear that I find a bit dim-witted. It's the quick pass manouvres that I find need extra horsepower.
And to be honest I think the ELAN looks like it should go faster than it really does. I wouldn't mind giving it the power it deserves!

I think i have read that Fiat and abarth have got a warranty that you can chip as long as you use their kit. I think you might have something a miss EKtroll. I find third is the gear with all the power it frightens me in stock form. Andy

I swapped with my friend's MGF for a short journey a while back & he scampered off in my (then stock) Elan & left me lagging way behind.
Maybe a good service is in order (plugs/leads/coils/mixture/timing etc) before thinking about chipping?

I've just had the major service... Belts and all with P.M only 100 hundred miles and 2 months ago.
I'm spoiled to be honest! Been trawling around in M3's, Ferrari's and Porsches etc. For years, that's all... I've gone very backwards in the power stakes when buying my ELAN.
Although having said that. I never see above .5 bar on the meter. Never seen .65 and I give it a lot of welly regularly. I'm just a power monger that's been spoiled and the ELAN just doesn't meet my power hungry nature. Don't get me wrong though. I love my car!

I'm going to have a real think about these chips. How much are they out of interest?

It would be interesting to see an Elanscan from your car - the guages are often inaccurate (or so I'm told - mine is fine), but it does sound like yours isn't boosting as much as it should.... (possible inoperative BCFV?)

Hi folks just got back from Donington had a great time. We managed to put a few names to faces. We didn't manage to get a scan done whilst we where there. We felt a little awkward introducing ourselves and then saying oh by the way can you fix the car. I'm sure it wouldn't of been a problem. Its just everyone seemed busy doing their thing. Which was great. So where we. Anyway 2 miles from home pulling on to a carriageway and giving the throttle a bit of poke. We got a puff of brown smoke from the exhaust. Then the turbo jumps into action 0'9 again and wild horses under the bonnet. I thought at first the turbo wastegate must have unstuck itself. When we got home i noticed that the exhaust sounded a bit blowy. It sounds like its blowing from the front around the area of the pre cat. I'm thinking now. Could the problem of the boost been a blockage? Maybe the stuff in the pre cat? I'm hoping its the exhaust that's blowing and not the manifold. Would a blockage give me boost problems. Max & Andy

Max, it is possible that the internals of the exhaust or cat has collapsed this happend on a car that was not used for a long while it would not boost but the engine ran reasonably well

Yes, it can collapse. The pre-cat is like a large tin filled with honeycomb (but no honey). Exhaust flows through just fine until the honeycomb fractures (it's ceramic.) Once that happens, the honeycomb collapses and restricts the exhaust. There's a great series of photos herethat show the precat's insides.

This happened on Smaug's main cat. Sounded like loose pebbles in the exhaust. Reduced my boost to only about half of normal. If your "burble" sounds like a rattle in the pre-cat, you could well be on the right track.

Its amazing how deceptive the sound of the exhaust is. This afternoon the blowing sounded like it was coming from the front. When trying it tonight from cold. The blowing-burble is definatle coming from the back box. It cant be both. The chances of it going from the back and the front both at the same time. Andy & Max

I'm sure Rip. Its that members who i had spoken to about it. It was like ships passing in the dark. We managed to find all the peoples cars that we where looking out for. I think that with the cars being in 4 different places didn't help. But it was a good excuse to check out all the cars. Who owns the silk red with Kia back lights'? Andy

I maintain that I still don't want to change the appearance of either the exterior or interior though. I don't count brakes and exhaust as they're something that's already there...
Oh. Forget it. I give up!

I surrender to to the ELAN modding gods...

I really, really want a chip! Bit it's going against everything I stand for. And I have such an original car that was a very lucky find. What to do? What to do? I don't want to break that seal on the ECU!
