If those pipes aren't on you normally get a slight hissing sound

hope you've found the issue

Halfords didn't fit the cd player. I got that done last week. I went to Halfords to buy the tool to take the cd out. They didn't have any but they charge £2 to remove for you. They have every different keys to remove. They couldn't get it out? I don't know what to say. The guy last week didn't seem to have a problem. But if Halfords cant do it I'm not sure what to do. I'M not even sure what key to buy when the get them in. He said he tried the right one. Andy

If the head unit was new then they come with the tools to take the head unit out, and they are usually in the box the head unit came in and by rights they are yours. I have seen it in the past where some places try to keep them they say it is for security, I say rubish as people who steal these things have them all ready or just destroy the dash plus if you want to remove the unit as is the case here you need them.
I'd go back to who ever fitted the head unit and ask for them.

The CD was in the car when we got it. Just not connected. We got it re fitted it turned out to be the fuse behind the passenger seat in the speaker box. It left the fitter foxed for quite a while and he had a good pull on everything so I'm guessing its then the problem occured. Where not having much luck with the alarm fitter and now the radio guy. What is the make and model of the head unit? May be someone has the "keys" to remove it and can lend them to you, I have some and am willing to lend them to you if they are the correct ones.

KDC-5030D
KDC-5030L That's off the instruction Manuel i will check the CD its self this afternoon. When i went to Halfords the guy pulled out a wallet with 20 sets of keys. He tried the prescribed set but they didn't work. There didn't seem to be anything for the little hooks to hook to. But the guy who fitted it got it out. The prescribed keys for my model will be in Halfords Friday but if they have already tried them i cant see the same ones working. I might try a different Halfords and see how they cope. Thanks for the offer Bobby i will get back to you on that. Andy

If you have the instruction manual it show what the keys look like and how to get it out.

My very first Elan fix. I went to a different Halfords to try their keys to get the CD out. They tried charging me £10 when it was £2 yesterday. So i bought a set of the keys which they had in stock. It came out easy. The Halfords Guy messed around for an hour yesterday. And still couldn't get it. With the CD out and the glove box dropped i could get a torch and a mirror and see behind. The hoses where off. With a little coaxing the mating process took place. And loads of hot air in the face. I'm no longer a Elan fix virgin. I might see if Braun GP need a lift for the rest of the season. No i couldn't have done it without you guys thanks a lot. The photo's where great. I was starting to panic my jobs to do list was getting bigger where my jobs done list didn't excised. So no need for the keys Bobby.
Thanks again Andy & Max
