Replacement or recover the hood?

Postby Stuart Saunders » Wed 02.07.2008, 13:25

Hi All,

I've just bought a 1991 Elan and the seals have pretty much disintegrated. The bars inside the hood swing freely so they are currently stuffed with material to stop them moving.

Inside, the frame has some rust. Just after some suggestions to see if you would recommend a full hood replacement or a re-covering?

Where is the best place to go for these parts (especially the seals)?

THANK YOU

You should speak to Dean Holt at Trim Tech, he will be able to help you out with a hood and seals if you need them, I bought a set a month or so back, £500 plus postage.

Thanks

I need a new hood for my car. In the US there are a few listed i.e. Tops on line. The Top Guys, and Germanex. Germanex have good prices, and they are a manufacturer. I spoke to the owner, and he says he can have a new hood made in 5 working days, in my choice of OE type of Stayfast, Stayfast with canvas backing or German product such as is used in high end imports.
Has anyone had any experience with Germanex or any of the others...any suggestion. What about a fitter somewhere in the North East?

Hi all,
It's me again. I was at the Carlisle Import and Kit Car Show this weekend, hoping to find a company to supply a new soft top for my car. No luck, but I did order a nice cover.

Looks like I will be ordering from Germanex on the West Coast, but I was hoping to hear from someone who has had experience with this supplier, and if not, any other recommendations for a source and also a fitter in the North East.
