I'm now the lucky new owner of a tatty but much loved 1990 Lotus Elan SE, with a 145K on the clock she is getting on a bit but
hopefully will have plenty of life left in her yet. She has service history upto 136K. Have got her penciled in for engine/gearbox oil change and plugs once my poorly Elan +2 is out of the garage.
Any advice would be great, also does anyone have a driver side front wheel arche lining they would like to sell??
Kind Regards
Aaron Hodgson.

Thank you, here is a picture of my latest addition. I've only been in to Lotus Car's for 2 years but since I got my Elan +2 I've been hooked.

A G reg! Has it got the older Opera (complex) style headlights or the newer, simpler pod type?
Also, King's Lynn is within the boundaries of Anglia & we used to hold meetings quite regularly but have moved south recently (long story but its closer to those who go). If you want to join us, check out the Anglian regular meets thread. Nothing much has happened on that for a while so maybe you could kick some life back into it?

To be honest I don't know about the lights, how do I tell which ones are the early ones?
When does the Anglian group meet?
Kind Regards
Aaron.

Welcome Aaron. Basically, before pointing straight ahead, opera headlights start off pointing at the sky whereas the later ones start off pointing at the road.

Oh right I will have to check, I know I don't have any dash lights which from reading on the forum seems to be a problem with the rheostat module. I'm going to Snetterton on June the 14th hoping to collect some spares. Need to at least change the engine and gearbox oil before then, the engine oil is looking very very black.

Hi Aaron, i`m a new owner too for the last 6 weeks and live near great yarmouth so not too far down the road. I can only say that since i have bought my elan i have had loads of fun driving it and doing the odd little repair here and there that needed doing.
I hope you get as much joy as i do. If you are near this way anytime gimme a look on here and we can have a meet with the cars.

Hi Aaron,
welcome to LEC,
if you are changing the engine oil you might want to check out this thread,
Oily Clicky the right grade will stop the annoying tappety sound when the car first starts up, I used Halfords fully synthetic - the one in the silver container - and it sounded tappety until the next oil change when I put in Mobil (10W40 IIRC) and hey presto - no tappety sound

Alas soon to be Elan-less
I keep telling myself it is for the best

welcome to the fold I have the Opera headlights - which come up and forward with a clatter - makes everyone laugh or jump depending on how close they are to the car
