Half Car Cover - £32 delivered

Postby BFG in the BRG » Sun 17.05.2009, 23:59

Hi,

dunno if anyone is interested, and I know I am beginning to sound like a Classic Additions rep but.....I got one of these - and it came in really useful when going and the BRG - heaven forbid... had to spend the night under the stars.

Packs really small - about the sixe of an A4 sheet - and about inch and a half thick.

I've managed to get Classic Additions to drop the price to £28 inc VAT with £7 delivery - (they will deliver up to 10 to the same address for £7), or simply deliver to everyone individually at £7 each - hence the price of £35.
Their website offers them at £39 plus delivery I think

It's pretty good - obviously there is a risk of it being knicked overnight - guess it depends on where you park it - but it might save you getting a wet arse - or bird poo on the roof...or both

There are two elasticated straps, one goes underneath the front of the car and one which goes under the rear of the car. There are also two "ears" built into the cover which slip over wing mirrors made out of lycra-type material. Only issue I can see is that the elastic bits might get grubby over time since they touch the underside of the car in places - but I guess it can be cleaned.

It's made out of a thin plasticy material, and is lightweight and soft.

http://www.classicadditions.com/index.php?cPath=47_49

Dunno what the minimum order will be - no more than 10 - (and hopefully 5)

Anyone interested - stick your names on the list.

Did you contact any other sources for a group buy? I don't need one, because I have a showercape (that's what they're called) already. I got mine from moto-build racing (click here). There's is custom fit for the Elan. The one you guys are looking at, although 10 GBP cheaper, appears to be universal fit. If you look at the link above, the picture shows an undercar strap at the middle, but the one they sent me doesn't have that (thankfully). Attaches to the wing mirrors, with a sturdy elastic strap in the back (for the Fed Elan it goes around the rear spoiler), and then you put a wiper on it on the front glass.

If you want to compare, you can contact moto-build and probably work out a group discount. Just a suggestion, if you prefer custom fit to universal.

Thanks for that tweetdriver,

I guess you takes your money and makes your choice,

to be honest the fitting looks similar.

With this one (Classic Additions) - there is no middle under car strap either.

There are two straps, one goes underneath the front of the car and one which goes under the rear of the car. There are also two "ears" built into the cover which slip over wing mirrors made out of lycra-type material. Only issue I can see is that the elastic bits might get grubby over time since they touch the underside of the car in places - but I guess it can be cleaned.

Good news - Classic Additions have just confirmed the price is now £32 inc VAT and delivery - there was confusion on the price of posting, this also includes a small contribution to LEC coffers  .

Normal price is around the £42 mark

Tell you what...

being an impatient soul, and being as there aren't huge numbers of people appearing to want these - I'll close this list at the end of the month and order for whoever - being as I'm just about to place an order for 5 wind blockers - I'll hopefully be able to order less than 5 covers and still get the discount.

List so far:

1) ashm
2) Esprit888
3) owentec
4)
5)

Any more takers?

To be honest I find this pretty good - however I use it only on occasions where I am staying out overnight and rain is forcast and the BRG is not under cover - therefore not very often, it is simply to stop the insides getting wet. I also took the view that if it got nicked I wouldn't be as annoyed as if a more expensive one went missing.

The inside of the cover is soft and lightweight, high winds might be bit of a challenge - don't get me wrong, I believe it is secure - I just don't know how hard it would have to blow before the material rips - probably pretty hard - I have just not tested it - again I tend to check the forecast before staying out.

I guess the pro's are
light weight
quick to fit - no scrabbling round on your hands and knees, no clips to do up etc
small package - around A4 size
pretty cheap
Easy to clean

Cons
Draws attention to you car - bright silver
probably flaps around a bit more than custom fitted
Easy to steal - (but then they probably all are)

At the end of the day - it's up yo you, I haven't investigated any others - I haven't had time

I'll find out how much to post to the US.

It didn't rain ! Seriously though if your footwells get wet when parked this is the bees knees for leaking 'A' pillar seals (and a lot cheaper 8) )
- esprit888 - I presume you know the A-Pillar seals were around £80 a pair - I assume they still are.

 :censored: :poke:

You are correct - I've just looked it up - I paid about £75 :bonk: :bonk: :bonk: :chair: :chair: EACH

Good news for all Elan M100 owners with 'A' pillar water leaks. Lotus Cars have just taken delivery of a consignment of replacement rubber seals (part nos B100V0117F & 118F A Pillar Seals).

These have been out of stock for some time so now's your chance to get hold of a pair. Even if your seals are in good condition it's worth buying a set for later on, especially as the price has been reduced from £122.33 each + vat (total £143.74) when last available in 2005, to just £63.82 + vat each (total £74.98).

This equals a bargain £150 per pair inc vat - half the original price!

Order now from your local main dealer. If they tell you they're not available just ask them to check with the factory.

Sorry Lotos - dont know if the above was referring to the Classic Additions one or tweets moto-build racing one

For the Classic Additions one cost for posting to the US - £13

Total cost therefore £28 + 13 = £41

Yes i know and have a nice new set sitting in the garage waiting to get fitted once the hardtop is ready. The shower cap works as a temp fix during the monsoon season. As i have mentioned before i tend to over change/protect/service/maintain my cars, why else would i be buying a shower cap when i already have a brand new fitted waterproof cover and a hardtop coming !! AND its in the garage
