Power steering problem

Since going to Donny my steering is really heavy i.e no power steering. I've been out the odd time in it since with the same problem.

Enjoying the sunshine this weekend I've been out and about a bit more and it is now an intermitant problem but more not working than working.

I've checked the fluid level and thats fine.

Any ideas before I take it into the garage?

Maybe a slack drivebelt.

Hi Andy, did you get this sorted!!!! Mine makes the power stearing noise but seems a little heavy, I haven't owned a Lotus before so i am unsure to how it should feel. The fluid is fine and clean and there are no visible leaks or squeaks....

The M100 steering is heavy by design to give you better feel on what the car is doing through the steering. I`ve fitted a new S2 rack and there`s not much difference with the old SE rack, you want to try it with an Elise steering wheel fitted lol

Cheers Monty, that is one thing marked off of my very long list, I rebuilt a Dutton Melos last year and parts were much easier to get and that was based on a MK1 Escort

I have always had new cars so i think i need to make allowences that the Lotus is handbuilt and 19 years old!!!!

Love the car though, it is only small but i think it looks like a baby Ferarri .....Me likes it....Me likes it alot

I have power steering problem as well

was at Bovington for the H4H track day - after lunch I took one of the tank instructors for a fast lap and as we were coming in he said "I can smell gearbox oil"...........parked up and switched off ............ got out of the car and a big pool of red ATF was forming under the car................................

PAS pump is leaking out behind the pulley - helpful mate took off the belt and I was able to drive it home

looks like a new PAS pump is next on the list of expenditure
