Track Tyres for Elan

Postby abmunro » Thu 18.06.2009, 21:57

I tried to buy some tyres

Toyo R888

Unfortunately they don't come in 205-45-16

Any suggestions on other track tyres or maybe different size to use.

Cheers

The reason I went for 17" rims for track use was so I could fit R888's. I wanted a set of rims with road tyres and set of rims with track tyres to make swapping between easier.

I have stuck with the 16" and gone for the Hankooks RS2's very good and 2/3rd of the price of R888's - from Camskills 8)

Martin, How you getting on with the RS2`s? IIRC you went for the 215`s, have you had any rubbing issues with tyres rubbing on the liners?

Have a look here Tony,

Kumho KU31's have got good reviews on SELOC. I've got them on my car now and they transformed the ride quality on the road. Haven't tried them on track yet but have had good reports from other track users. First outing will be on the IOM next month.
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

I've ordered a set of Toyo R1R's as tracktires ... because the 888 isnt available in the right sizes.

Will post more info when the wheels and tyres are installed.

I think the Proxies are the same compound as R888 but have a deeper tread depth. Although the tread is too deep for the track, worn tyres are good! It may be worth looking into this if you drive your car on the road. Have 2 sets of wheels and reuse worn road tyres for the track.
