SPAMHAUS - WTF is this ??

Postby Rambo » Thu 18.06.2009, 10:54

This message has come up a couple of times when I've tried to reply to a post

Your IP xx.xxx.xxx.x has been blocked because it is blacklisted. For details please see http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?

Its happened quite a few times and is really quite annoying :!: Don't know why I've been blacklisted - although I can think of a few others who should be ;-)

Any of you IT boffins know what's going on ??

Thanks Ailwyn.

Maybe I've got one of those virus/Trojan thinggies that send out Spam e-mails in the background :?:

I've had a few people tell me that some of my e-mail messages via Yahoo have gone directly into thir Spam or junk folders :!:

You can use Kaspersky's Free Online Scanner to scan your PC for nasties. It won't remove them but will tell you if/what you've got.
Needs Internet Explorer and a fairly recent version of Java.

Mark,

Apologies I couldn't spend much time on here earlier.

Most likely you get assigned a dynamic IP (internet address assigned to your computer)... are you still using a dial-up modem??? ;)

If you are on broadband, then to avoid getting a dynamic IP you can usually get a Static IP address from your Internet Service Provider.

Worth while making sure you have an up-to-date antivirus system running on your machine and make sure (assuming your using Windows XP SP2 or higher) that the windows firewall is enabled.

There is a link in the message you receive, and if you follow that you can follow the instructions to remove your IP from the blacklist - however if you have a dynamically assigned IP then next time you connect you could face the same problem.

Thanks Ailwyn + Saska for your input. I'll investigate further.

PS Still on dial up but soon to change and come into the 21st century :!:

Ook! Don't bother with the Kaspersky Scanner, it will take forever to download the bases over dial-up.
PM me your snail address and I'll send a CD with some files & destructions on it.
