Sorry if this is an impertinent question, and I'm not meaning to sound cheap, but why are these so expensive? Is there something unusual about our gear cables that I'm not aware of? Push-pull control cables for racing or aircraft use (see Pegasus or Aircraft Spruce) are typically in the $30-50 range. I realize the AB cables have some R&D behind them, and include different mounting brackets and tools, and all of that stuff costs money. Still seems very expensive to me, but again, I admit I may be missing something. Can anybody shed some light on the cost?

Mark, you have PM back :)

If anyone on the list is outside the UK other than those indicated, please let me know.

The UK ones will all ship direct to me for distribution, those going to other coutries will ship direct from AB.

Looks like 2 sets remaining if anyone wants them

A set of AB cables at list price is still actually cheaper than a set of Lotus original ones, but vastly superior in quality - almost indestructible in comparison.
They dispense with all the cr@ppy plastic bits in favour of machined metal, which removes most of the play and stodginess of the original gearshift action. And being more robust they are much less likely to fail if you fit a short-shift kit, which completes a great modification.

Will, please excuse the slight hijack here but I read elsewhere (here) that the bracket was apparently only redesigned a few months ago.
I've always found the sideways action to be a bit stiff with the combination of my AB cables and Bill's Isuzu-Performance short-shift kit fitted.
Could you find out if the new style bracket tackles this, and if there's any chance of them including a spare in the shipment?

Apparently the new bracket is near identical looking to the old one, it was just made easier to manufacture Alan Betts said.

WillB, Would you or could you make a couple of recommendations to Alan please...

I had two observations from the set that he made for me earlier this year...

When the cables are boxed, Could you they be packed straight as not to exceed the minimum bend radius for a Bowden style cable, I think this is why the cables are initial stiff to operate...

also would it be possible to have a thicker cadmium style coating on the metal pieces which go to make up the cables. The reason why....when the cables are swaged it reveals the bare metal under the coating.

Many thanks
