Was taking my neice to her prom and some tw*t reversed his taxi into my car !
What do you think ? New clamshell or not ?
The damage looks pretty cosmetic, it was very low speed, and it was his tow bar that hit me. I've looked under the bonnet (for once) and no cracks or anything there.
Rung my insurance and they are dealing with it.
I guess my sale is on hold at the moment.
My first 'accident' in nearly 25 years of driving!

At least it wasn't the stable mate!
Probably only superficial - let's hope so anyway.
I guess that's why we all (?) have insurance.
Bad timing though, but once it's sorted you'll want to keep it.

Gaz I had a women reverse into the front of my Elan on Saturday in tesco petrol station. It also has cracked the clam in exactly the same spot as your's and I am getting it repaired by Option1 and also paying £200 to have the front bumper sprayed. Hope for us both the insurance companies make it an easy claim. Remember you can have the repair done where you want it! CJ

Thank's for the advice lads. Where is option 1 ?
I've already logged the claim with the insurance.
Funnily enough a guy that came to see my car said the front bumper needed spraying - looks like it will be getting done now !

Option 1 is in Bromsgrove...
Looks like minor work is needed.
I've never had an accident but been reversed into three times whilst stationary in car parks. Can you believe? Three times!
Luckily I was sat in the car on each occasion and thankfully not ever in my ELAN! But I still can't get over three times!!!

When I realised what was happening I threw it in reverse and backed up (without even looking behind !!!!) luckily no cars or people there, but obviously I wasn't quick enough

It will look as good as new if you get the right people to repair it. Get them to do any stonechips done as well as part of blending it in

Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

Ouch, bad timing. Then again, accidents are always a pain.

Unlucky
But at least you were in the car at the time - my experience is that if there are no witnesses, many people seem to 'not notice' that they have been in a collision, and just drive away 'oblivious'
Of course, you could always have the whole thing painted a different colour - might make it easier to sell?

The insurance repairers rang today - they wanted to come and pick the car up for repair !
I'm holding on to it at the moment as Mr P has recommended somewhere local that have plenty of Elan experience after rebuilding JPS several times

Agree, I wouldn't let them take it for repair even if they paid me! It looks like an easy repair for anyone who knows what their doing

Now I don't know what to do.
PaulP's place are gonna send a quote (at least they say it is repairable and they don't even need to remove the clamshell to do it), but the insurance says that if I take to to them, then they need to get the quote, if they are happy with it they then will send an assesor. They have to get his report before they agree and then and only then will they give the go ahead.
If I go with their repairers then they want to pick the car up asap and say it will take upto 3 weeks. However the repair will be waranteed for 5 years which it won't be with Mr P's place.
Dunno what to do...

Gary, I would want to see that repaired front and back. If it's only repaired from the front it might be suseptible to cracking if pressure were put on it, from over zealous polishing perhaps
Get the damaged part removed and repaired properly, you're not paying are you?

Bet that's only valid with the original customer i.e.
you so no good if you flog it. I've got a lifetime guarantee on work done on the Pug by an insurance preferred repairer about 6 years ago: It went back 3 years ago because the paint started lifting, the door didn't seal properly and the trim was coming off - they did a crap patching job including runs, the door still doesn't seal and the trim still lifts but I can't be bothered. I suspect most insurance repairers with long guarantees are relying on most people changing their cars every few years and I would go for one on personal recommendation any time.

I see. Perhaps it will be the local people after all, it is more convenient.
and now that the sun has come out I don't want to be without the car for long. Have a lot of plans with it for the next month or so
Seems strange that I'm trying to sell it actually....
