Help troubleshooting ignition problems

my auto electritcan could not find the problem .
have orded a new cas or hall sensor.

this parts taking some time to come from lotus.

new cas sensor fitted still no spark . totaly at a loss now any suggestions?

I've only just caught this thread so please forgive me if I ask some stuupid questions...

did you work out what the socket was?

did you work out where the vacum hoses go?

Is there definatly no spark...(Just ruling out fuel and air)

Will the car even turn over?

Have you any fault codes?

Have you ElanScan?..(Not that it would help at this stage of the game)

Have you got an S2?

Have you checked the inertia switch?

I think that should get us going....

your questions and some replys

did you work out what the socket was?
not so far but i think its not used on my car.

deffo no spark.used a spare plug to test

Will the car even turn over?
yep turns over fine

Have you any fault codes?
no fault codes just 12

Have you ElanScan?..(Not that it would help at this stage of the game)
my elan scan cant find an active port ?

yes 96 s2

Have you checked the inertia switch?
yes checked that

Was the car was running when it died...or was it after you got in and tried to start it?

yes its under one of the mounting bolts . i have tested for electrical continuity between the coil base plate and the engine block and we have it.

Have you conected all three plugs infront of the coils/expansion bottle...

Are you getting power to the coils?

of the 3 conections to the coil the connection nearest the front of the car has 2 wires.
the large red and black wire has a 12vlt live

all 3 conections are in place

should the black wire also have a constant earth ?

the problem as the garage tellsme is from the coil area posibly the modules that connect to the coil?
can these 3 parts be found as 1 part or 3 and if so where from?

My tech tells me I have a bad ECU. $650 US from Lotus. Ouch. Any idea where to source one for less in the US?

Dave Bean Engineering, http://www.davebean.com/ I bought mine from them. They have (had?) California, 49 state an EU computers in stock. If you have an EU ECU you can get a mountain chip made to turn it into a 49 state with the extra boost.
