Sent messages vs outbox

I have a question. Why is it that when I send a pm, it sometimes end up in my outbox instead of my sent messages. Does it mean that my pm has been sent?

Outbox = Sent but unread by recipient
Sent = Sent & Read

But....if people have PM's sent to their emails, they can read them on the email, and then the message will stay in your outbox as it has not been read on the forum.

So...just 'cos it is in the outbox doesn't mean it hasn't been read...

The PM hasn't been read... whether someone has read the content in the email notification is not really the responsibility of the board is it?
