used Advanced detailing in romford to repair my bumper which he did a good job of so he talked me into a mop and touch up for £125 which he hasn't done 2 weeks later after repeated promises and having the cash !! i know i was stupid but he did the repairs as agreed so i trusted him chased him again tonight and he's told me to F~*k off so i assume ive wasted the money, wife doesn't want me to chase him for it as he knows where we live. So my advice is don't use them.

he's just texted me to say get lost basically so rather than worry the wife i will write the money off as a lesson learned will have a go at tidying the few stonechips myself with some elbow grease and cutting compound i suppose

Worth a report to Trading Standards I would have thought. In agreeing to do the work and taking your money he (and you) had committed to a contract, even only verbal it is still binding in law. Your case would be helped if you have evidence of the payment. I accept and understand your wish not to provoke further problems but it appears you have been ripped off and he is getting away with it.

if you paid by credit card then youve still got some come back....although for £125 they might not be interested...
having had 'jobs' done like that in the past...ie cash up front and see what you get Ive changed my mind about trusting 'new' providers.......I still like the old 'pay you when youve done the job I asked for' mentality.....maybe that just the 'northerner' in me being a bit tight arsed
I hope you get it sorted....there are a few guy your way who will be able to point you in the right direction if not.....

Just on a different note.
Don't mop these cars! I've been reliably informed...

My cousin is in the paint/valeting trade and he has said in the past not to mop a fibre-glass car. A paint specialist has also given me the same advice in the past. Perhaps if done it would be okay, but the proffesionals I've dealt with have all said don't risk it!

thanks for the advice going to treat it as a lesson learned rather than chase him (if he's willing to blatantly take money what might he do if i chase him for it ?) I think i'll just try to polish the few stone chips rather than the whole car so if anyone knows what is safe to use i'd be grateful to hear from you.

It would be worth talking to Trading Standards as they may be already investigating this guy or received other compaints and they would appreciate the information even if you dont want to get involved formally.

A couple of years ago I was out bidded on a car at auction which a few weeks later was advertised by a"reputable" dealer in High Performance Cars on Autotrader with 20,000 less miles. I rung Trading Standards who investigated even through I was not prepared to a make a formal complaint.They were good enough to call me back a few weeks later to that say although the dealer wasnt actually clocking cars he was making lots of "mistakes" in respect of odemeter readings of the cars he was selling on his adverts/website. He had been given a warning and was being monitored.
