I have owned an SE turbo for about 3 years and in all this time the nearside visor has been floppy. Where it hinges inside the foam like material, it jusy seems too loose. I've tried sleeving the metal bars in order to increase the friction on the bars but this only last a couple of weeks and then goes floppy again. I think this may be damaged behond repair.
Does anyone know if replacements are available or has anyone found a fix for floppy visors.
Many thanks
Gerald

I took mine off and wrapped the pegs with black vinyl electrical tape. I only needed to do the driver's side, and it's been good for about a year. I'm about to re-do it because the tape has gradually worked its way out.
Some people just take them off and put them in a bin.

I use heatshrink tube about 8mm diameter (its one of the standard sizes).
On the end to be inserted I leave a little extra and shrink it round the knob of the peg, then shrink the rest on tight.
Seems to work very well.

I certainly would on a track car but after nearly knocking down an old dear at a pelican crossing due to low winter sunlight, I've put them back on.

I have just bodged a fix, but it is working well. I have attached a small magnet i had kicking around to the visor that sticks to the roof clamp. I have just stuck it on with back tape for the time being, but it does stay in place and feels good. I got the magnets with a bath panel, so you would have to find your own solution to that question.
Scott.
Do I buy another Elan or go for something older and different?

I've never seen where anybody else used magnets. If they work well, then
this type of product is available at most stores that sell craft supplies/office supplies/hardware. Normally it's used to make your own refridgerator magnets, like out of business cards, etc. Might work though.

After just driving my car, it occurs to me that magnets that stick the visor to the hood latches will only work when the hood is up. What do you do when you have it down??

This is a very good point, and it shows that car alterations should not be carried out when it's raining! I might just take the useless visors off and keep them for the next owner!

Looks like I should just undo two screws and the visor will drop out. Unfortunately, the screws simply twirl without backing out. Any ideas on how to overcome this? What do they screw into?

Tigerdog,
When I had a similar
problem with the over centre clips they were this type ...

Try levering it down at the same time as turning, failing that you’ll need to see if you can get to it from above.
Superglue may hold the nut sufficient to remove the screw.
