Engine compartment release cable

Postby Eggflipper » Sat 18.07.2009, 22:15

Has anyone replaced this cable? How does it connect to the release handle?

I've tried to removed one... new cable and handle on standby..

IIRC there was an issue with removing it...

Here's a few ways round the issue...

Undo the bonnet end of the cable completely...

Unbolt the black release handle...

extract the swaged end from the release handle...

If the conduit is good..Pull the wire all the way through and insert a new wire in the old conduit.

If you try to slide the white plastic housing rearwards it will most probably end in tears

De-rivet the full assembly, extract the whole thing and work it carefully on the bench

Hope that helps...

THANKS FOR THE REPLY,BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE BONNET END IS NOT ACCESSIBLE BECAUSE THE LATCH WILL NOT RELEASE THE HOOD. ANY OTHER IDEAS?

Can you let us know which car you have? Is it a LHD Fedral car, the type you get in the USA.

Or just the normal varient?

Can you say why the handle won't work? Has the cable snapped? Is it jammed solid?

I DON'T THINK THE CABLE IS BROKEN. I THINK THE MECHANISM THAT HOLDS THE HOOD DOWN IS STUCK. WHEN I PULL THE HANDLE THE CABLE MOVES BUT DOES NOTHING TO RELEASE THE HOOD.

Are you in the USA?

I'm trying to work out which nose you have on the front of your car.

get someone to press on the bonnet (hood) at the same time as you pull the handle,
it takes the pressure of the spring, also put the lights on so you can get your hand under the bonnet and pull at the same time.

the cable is clipped to the inner wing drivers side on the uk car, i guess its the same on the fed spec , take the wheel arch linner out , stick your hand up to the top of the inner wing, you should be able to find the cable, give it pull,
if the cable has come away at the latch, it will be a pain in the butt to sort ,
the only way i can think of is try and get your hand to the latch from the head light pod
i'm not able to get to my car at the moment to see if its do-able, sorry if its not much help
