Heat Distribution Switch

Postby sutolcar » Tue 28.07.2009, 23:39

Hi,
Suspect a tube has come off the back of my heat distribution switch on the dash.
Does anyone know how to get the unit out of the dash? I have got the front black trim off to reveal a white unit with the three controls vertically in line.
Got the radio out and can see a black tune hanging loose connected to nothing!
Thanks

There's three types of heater control, but in essence they're all the same...

they are held in with two Phillips style scews, one at the top and one at the bottom. They are located and accessed only from the rear of the contorller. :(

It maybe easier just to use a mirror and a torch and put the tube back on...

Failing that, you could pull off the rubber plug that connects the vacum tubes to the heater valve, this would give a little more acess to put the tube on the rubber plug.

Does the tube that's dangling have a screw in it? and is it coming of the back of the rubber mounting plug?

When Max's tubes came off we managed to put them back on by reaching up through the glove box. We used a torch and mirror on a old aerial. We just looked through the radio slot. Speck's photos helped allot. I'm not sure what pages there on but on LEC.

Cheers for that.
The black rubber tube that is loose comes out from the firewall direction, along with (from memory) about three others.
Symptom that started all this was that only the air distribution control only directss air straight out from the dash. Put it on any other setting and all you get is hissing!!
Have the glove box and radio out of the way . . . now need to find a clever small pet to get in there (ferret?) with a few tools!! Failing that, patience and double joints.

If i remember i could get my left arm up through the glove box opening. With a couple of torches left on. You don't need to hold them. I just dropped them and fished them out later. Study Speckys photo's of the back and use a small mirror. We used a round compact with the hinge so it opens to what angle you want. Then its a bit of push and hope. It didn't take me that long. But without the photo's i wouldn't of had a chance. Andy
