The heater control unit comes from an Australian car, the Holden Commodore VN or VR. This was the most popular car sold in Australia at the time so there were literally thousands of these made.

Please note, the Holden unit does not appear to be an identical replacement. The Elan's control has six vent combinations (at least my Fed-spec car does and I believe UK cars as well.) The Holden controls I've seen have only five positions.

Chating with Tigerdog the other day,
We established there's three types of heater controller fitted to the Elan.
