Oil filter key

Hi Everybody,
As most of you know changing engine oil is not one of the funniest jobs you can perform on the M100, I hope the following lines will be of some help.
After changing the oil filter several times, using all kind of available keys, I found out the best way to unscrew the filter: I bought one self centering key (see attachment) and with the help of 4 nylon cable ties becomes an easy job to do. Take notice that the bigger cable tie has to be tighten in a way that the key clenches around the filter. If you don’t do this the key will fall and, due to the lack of space, you will not unscrew it easily!
Pay attention: if your arms and hands are close to the gorilla size , just forget the job!

I tried several types and found the 'screw-on clamp' type to be the best at the job and it gives room to get hands in - see attached pictures.

I have one like that but the problem is you don’t have much room to move the key! Every time you have to unclamp the key and fasten it again to unscrew just a few centimetres of the filter! The one I use now is 1 minute work…

I have a K&N filter on mine now. It can be be removed with a completely different tool...a 25mm spanner!
It is so much easier to manouver into place than any standard filter removal tools.

I got one of those obsolete lotus things that only fits Champion oil filters.

Very happy with it as I can unscrew the filter with just my hand...........until now.

Went to fit new champion oil filter and noticed that they have gone and changed the exterior design, it no longer has the the little indents that the lotus tool was specifically designed to fit!!!!

So now back in the hunt for another tool to get the champion off before I fit one of those K&N types.

Dermot if you use the Crosland filter No 672 it will fit the Lotus filter key that you have, this filter is what the Lotus garages are now selling at a sensible price.
