Problem starting, replace CAS, no error codes ...

So i had the error 41. replaced a complete CAS. Didn't mark anything on the plastic and didnt do the timing yet.

Car wouldn't hold the idle and start and died. I checked the ALDL, the error code 41 if gone now.

But issues starting up. I tried adjusting the CAS back and forth but that didn't help. now I think my timing is REALLY REALLY off. I can hear knocks in the exhaust somtimes on turning the key.

HOW can i fix the timing when my car doesn't even start/ or idle properly???

for a few moments i was able to turn over the car and idle it at 500-900 rpm only if my foot was down on the gas and my other foot in clutch.

it feels its trying to idle but why wont the rpm catch on and increase?

can on put the car in service mode and then try to start the engine?

so a few times I was able to rev up the car a bit when starting. but when i let go gas, it dies.

Also when I put in in gear AKA reverse, the rpm drops and my car stalls out.

What is wrong? Please help.

one of several things:-

1) The newly fitted CAS is unserviceable, put your old CAS back on where you marked it, (If you get the fault code back, swap the HES over from the new CAS on to the old one)
2) the newly fitted CAS has been fitted incorrectly... This could have bent the drive, put you old CAS back on where you marked it, (If you get the fault code back, swap the HES over from the new CAS on to the old one)
3)Both electrical cables from the CAS/HES are not connected.
4)Something else is now broken, possibly the ECU (Was the battery disconected?)

Good thought, but I doubt it was the new CAS since my car did the same thing with the old CAS. with the old one, it had the service light.

Now new CAS no service light.

what would cause rpm to drop when putting the car in gear to move?

Doulbe check the Set up, A check the timing belt /Cam Belt...(Tension etc,use the end cover bolts in the cam wheels etc)

Then do the Base timing...

If that gives no joy then you're onto other stuff (TPS,coils,leads,plugs etc)

Have you down loaded the manuals fella?

The check is as per replacing the cambelt,

Basically wack in the bolts thru the cam wheels and check all the timing marks

not sure if this helps but I noticed that when i let the car sit for a few hrs and then try starting it, it turns over easier then usual. it will still stall after i let go gas.

but when i try to start it up again, its wont start as easy.

also i noticed today the coolant pump fuse was blown in the upper dash area... replaced it too.

when car is idling. can you rev greater than 4000 rpms?

I have no error codes, replaced the CAS and still when i get lucky and the car cranks over... cant get it to rev greater than 4K rpms in neutral.

any ideas? is this normal. prob the rev limiter in neutral? just wanted to make sure others are like this.

ALso i think my idle air control valve is bad. I saw the pick in wiki but cant find it on the car? ANybody know where i can exactly find this? I say it might be this part messing with my crank cause when the car sits, it cranks over... but after shutting off the car, it wont start back up.

Read in the manual that the car automaticaaly resets the IAC after the engine is off and sits for awhile.

any suggestions?

After you shut the car down, will the car start with the accelerator pedal fully depressed?

no. tries to crank but rarely ever does.

but after leting it sit for an hr or two.

it starts up no problem.
