A few Horses....More like a Grand National

Postby steve291274 » Thu 08.10.2009, 22:01

Having had the Elan for nearly a year now and being my second one I always felt this one was down on power. Anyway after GST did his magic freeing the wastegate it was better but even Gerald said its not producing the power delivery it should, and its running an Everest chip with a K@N. So after seeing a local company advertise with a rolling road I thought I'd give that a go. So I went to see them Wednesday morning, and the guy was very helpful telling me he'd never done an Elan before and that he used to own a Eclat and at only £35 I thought you can't go wrong. Within 15 mins the car was setup and ready for the first run.... 4th gear, flat out watching a very uneven power curve......125BHP....I thought, is that it........2nd run.........same again...........122BHP........O dear...........
So after a deccusion saying that he felt he could feel and blip during hard acceleration he suggested leads or plugs.
These are now on the way from SJSportscars. If these don't work I just want to know what route should I go down. What next :?:

My immediate first thought, but I would imagine it would have been Gerald's as well...

Is it an S2 ? Strangled catalist/PCE?

125 is really Sh*te.....i mean seriously underpowered........compression test?

Then it's a something n the block issue....and even though I have replaced a turbo ( nearly)  then I would head off to the prfessionalls

 :-D
Two mins is a long time on here, Richard.
My :agree: was to your earlier post, and two people got in first while I was reading and typing.

If the timing's right, and it's not a strangulated cat, the other thing it could be is cam timing out by a tooth. Has the timing belt been done recently?

It's an SE not an S2.

Gerald also swapped the oversized back box for something nearer standard (the bigger one is in my garage!).

Steve - bring it round on Sunday and let's see what we can eliminate - I have spare leads etc etc etc. I'm guessing HGF may come into the equation.

BTW did Tom at Birchanger do the dyno testing?

Cheers Dave. What time Sunday? I'm out Sunday afternoon after lunch, and yes mate it was Tom @ T.C.S. Hopefully should have the new leads and plugs from SJSportscars.

New leads............ Done. New plugs...............Done. Any better, slightly, on pick up only. Also checked the speed sensor as Gerald said, OK. :banghead:. The timing is ok although running a little rich. I am going to get Gerald to check to see if the cam is out by a notch although he said havin driven the car, it would have been running worse than it is. Would taking the Everest chip out for while make any difference :?:
