I'm agreeing with Neil here, its the coils, I had exactly the same problem a couple of years back..... don't change anything else until you try a known working set.

My fingers are well and truely off of the car till the coils arrive. "hopefully" it will be the problem and i can get back to loving the thing again.

My wife want me to sell it as she says it is a money pit, But for some sick and twisted reason i love the thing..

It has been the most unreliable car i have ever owned but when the garage door opens i just have to smile....I'm hooked :shock:

I think you have just been unlucky here - the Elans are normally well behaved.

I wish you luck with it and hope the coils do the trick.

Hi Guys, fitted the coils this morning and just come back from a trouble free blast......"VERY HAPPY"

I wish to thank all of you for your help in getting this sorted especially Andy who sent me a set of injectors to try and also Dave who sent me the coils and leads.

If it hadn't been for you guys i would have wasted a fortune on a wild goose chase..and Mrs "T" would have been less than pleased.

Hooray! Glad you've isolated the trouble. If considering aftermarket coils, several of us have had great luck with MSD. They're available from RockAuto and probably UK sources as well. Accel is another brand that could work, but they're nothing but trouble if you check the web. You might consider changing the plug wires at the same time, as a failing plug wire can wipe out the coil to which it's attached (well, it did here.) The Kingsborne leads are reasonably priced (especially with the exchange rate these days!) and work well. Most of us have opted for the 8MM size; they require larger spacers but Kingsborne include them in the kit. They ship to the UK and may still offer a LEC discount after a large group buy from a couple of years back.
