I have the ebay sensor. Is the seller by any chance an LEC member, if yes could you let me know your email please.

I can't decide whether to get a Killimanjaro or Everest chip. Can anyone tell me if ther is much difference in the fuel consumption
between the two when driven in a similar fashion (not flat out). It is always nice to have the extra poke for overtaking and fun, but my
other thought is, how much more likely is a head gasket failure with the Everest. My car has done 31k miles.

Ask Neil, he's bought some rear pads off him.

Colin, the difference between stock, Kili and Everest is only apparent under boost conditions, so you'll not notice much difference in consumption unless you've got a heavy right foot. The engine obviously suffers more stress at higher boost, but if the engine is/has been well maintained and you're not tracking it, I doubt there will be a problem. Remember, you control the boost with your right foot - it doesn't have to be max boost unless you need/want it.

Thanks for the replies. I have sent the PM. I'd better go for the Everest otherwise I'm bound to regret not doing so.

:agree:

Colin those were my thoughts exactly - and I figured - go Everest - the only thing you might come across is over-boost with the Everest because the Turbo might not be able to lose the additional exhaust gasses brought on with the extra boost, in which case you'll need to port the wastegate - but you won't know that until you fit it - hasn't put me off though, and I'll just port that wastegate anyway whilst the BRG is laid up for the winter, working on the presumption that I'll possibly get it now but even more possibly when I get a Piper exhaust when my current exhaust dies. Porting thread - also a WIKI on it.

The prospect of getting an Everest that pays for itself through improved efficiency was too good an opportunity.

Shouldn`t have to port the wastegate with an Everest Chip as the over bosst limit iirc has been upped to 0.98, if your having problems then it`ll be a stuck wastegate, only when you`ve fitted a bigger bore exhaust do you need to port the wastegate

just had a quick look at your wiki write up, nice job
i can confirm my car an se, j reg , is a pain inthe ar@e,
pulled the arch liner of to find nothing, the rhfhc is inside the car, as high as lotus could get it under the dash,
if you thought the throttle spring was a pain, you can just seen the connector block with your head in the drivers foot well, with a tourch in your mouth,
i doubt there's much chance of being able to get to it, i can only see one wire missing and that goes to the spare round connector by the strut ,
when i checked the colour at the o2 connector solid brown with yellow band its got a matching brown stripe yellow stripe on the other side of the block,

i guess i lucky,

Mine is also a J reg SE and after doing a handstand in my footwell looks like all the wiring is in place - connected everything up and ......looks like it is not working - only started it up of the driveway for a few minutes though and did an Elanscan - can someone take a look and confirm it isn't closed loop!

Unfortunatly I can't take it for a spin since i discovered a torn CV Boot

Looks to me like it is working. Choosing either of the O2 Sensor Integrators shows variable readings from 96 - 114 (anyone know what units this is in) and the Air/Fuel ratio is nailed at 14.7 which is correct AFAIK. I note that you've fitted a 1499 presumably one of Alan's efforts.
If I'm correct and it is working then 2 things will be of interest -- what's your fuel economy like before & after and when you do MOT it what are the emission readings before and after. Will be worth noting any other mods to PCE/Exhaust for the latter. Good luck with the CV joint.

Looks fine to me too. CO potentiometer/oxygen sensor output is bouncing nicely between 0 and 3.7V as it should, whereas open loop is constant at around 2V (as set by the pot).

Tony, I think the air/fuel ratio is the desired value (like the target idle) rather than the measured value and I've just noticed that the value for closed loop is 14.7 whereas it is 14 for open loop - leaner mix = fuel saved = better economy in theory.

Not sure what the scaling is on the integrated output but it's no doubt an indication of the average fuel/air mixture.

Oh right - surprising - I didn't think it was working because I looked at flag 42.0 which said "Closed loop - off" - but I see what you mean about the CO Potentiometer/Oxygen sensor - for me and Elanscan, it is a case of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

It is one of Alan's Everest Chips
MOT is April - so a little time yet.

Anyway - the good news - it was plug and play for me - no wiring required, the bad news - I still have to put the wheelarch liner back which I neednt have taken off - (c'est la vie)....and replace some of the bolts I buggered up getting it off in the first place - still, at least it will be easier to get off next time, regarding fuel economy, I'll see what a difference it made when I am back on the road - but before this mod went on - ie OPEN LOOP
constant 291 mile 70/80 mph run I got 36 mpg
251miles A/B roads with occasional hoon 27mpg

I should add that I am generally not a racer - my style is gentle throttle, keep the momentum going, anticipate what's coming up ahead and use brakes as a last resort - I regularly get 42mpg from a 2 litre Avensis.

Anyway - if anyone wants a Bosch Oxygen sensor £40 incl P&P and a donation to LEC let me know - I have a spare.

Ta Geoff, thanks for clarification. I did wonder about the dead flat 14.7 line.
Going to get better at reading these .ecu files if it kills me :)

Yep, the Everest makes a fairly impressive difference...
Only thing is, I keep getting frustrated, I'm one of those annoying people who actually pays attention to the speed limit. A quick blip of throttle through 2nd and 3rd and you've got to ease off. 70 feels like she's just getting limbered up!

Hi

I am having trouble trying to purchase a closed loop Everest. The transfer seems to loop, so I broke out.

Could the vendor please PM me. Doubtless me being inept. :(

Ok, already fitted the O2 sensor to Dico`s Elan when doing the Turbo upgrade, i`ve now Installed the 1499 stock chip and seems to be ticking over better.

If I unplug the O2 sensor when the car is running should there be an error code? as were not getting an engine light :? Just testing to see if everything is up and running ok as there was talk that the O2 sensor shouldn`t be fitted without there being a live signal :?

I got an error light when I installed the 1499 Everest and the 02 sensor wasn't properly connected, but I can't remember what code I was getting. Sure nobody's pinched your CEL bulb? If you like I'll yank the sensor plug later and tell you what happens.

It's pretty easy to check whether the necessary wiring's in place, you just need to find the RHFHC. It'll be near the bulkhead, either inside near the pedal box or outside behind the wheel arch liner.

My engine's running nicely since the install (when the car's driveable, that is :? ). Gone is the nasty unburnt fuel smell, which was unpleasant before since I seem to have a leak somewhere around the PCE that I can smell from the cabin. Fuel economy's much better as well, definitely worth it since it only cost me £22 or so.
