It all comes down to your driving style :-)

I once had a passenger who was visibly scared to step in to my Toyota MR2 (read: any sport scar) She started a conversation that lasted quite long about how high speed frightens her (anything over 100 km/h) and that drivers of sports cars where dangerous. After the 2 hour drive i told her that we drove around 160-ish for almost the complete 2 hour trip. I noticed how she relaxed after 15 minutes or so, then i gently accelerated to 160. She never knew! (slow accelerating, anticipating the traffic far ahead, no harsh braking and no abrupt lane changing e.c.) I never heard her say anything negative about sports cars or their drivers ever again. :D

135 on speedo, 125 on satnav on an autobahn on the way to the ring. Fair to say there was more left but that was fast enuf for me on a public road. On a track i got to 120 on the speedo which would probably equate to about 110 actual

This topic made me post on my blog, the story of an incident with a stolen Escort Cosworth driven by a crap driver.

http://anonw.wordpress.com/2009/12/18/a ... -cosworth/

I saw probably about 135 on the speedo, so that was probably about 125 mph. Recently I have seen 120 to 125 on some German autobahns and in other places, where it isn't so legal.

I equalled the manufacturer's claim of 137mph - GPS indicated. Speedo was at about 155 though - bit of discrepancy there! Mountain chip...although there really were no more revs left regardless of the power. I wonder how fast they would go with different gearing!

I've been thinking about this for a while now.....

Vauxhall F28 Gearbox (6 speed, cable change, cable clutch) looks good on paper (ratios are variable, depending on which Vauxhall it came from, but on most, the 5th & 6th are overdriven ratios.

I havent had a chance to do any measuring, but am hopeful that as Isuzu and Vauxhall are GM products, there may be some sort of chance of success.
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Not so sure I want my Elan to be cabable of more than 137 MPH, it's frightening enough at 125 (GPS indicated, in Germany). Thought the hood was going to come off, it had lifted at the rear 4 or 5 cms or so, plus was feeling a bit twitchy, and braking hard at that speed was not good (standard calipers), the back end was skittish and as Clarkson would say, I was almost touching cloth! Upgrade brakes on order.
