OK went to look at this car today and have the following comments.
Good points
1. Remarkably few stone chips
2. Service history ok last service in 2007 though but no indication of belt changes etc. Only a couple of receipts from Lipscombe Lotus.
3. Interior good, seats showing the sort of wear for 60k miles
4. Tyres reasonable amount of tread left
5. Drives straight
6. Very few rattles and squeaks for an Elan
7. Shut lines generally ok – see bad points no.2 though
8. Actually red not pink!
9. No play in steering
Note forgot to check toolkit/jack and space saver
Pioneer radio front not with car but isn’t lost just removed for security.
Did not check window operation.
Bad points
1. Headlight o/s shut lines not right.
2. Bumper section slightly skewed.
3. Lotus bonnet badge badly damaged.
4. One alloy wheel kerbed (repaired) others show signs of corrosion but repaired. Repair standard adequate unless you get close.
5. Although receipts show that silencer box is 2 years old it is rusting, doesn’t look like a very good quality.
6. Slight lifting of lacquer on spoiler.
7. Front bumper slight graze.
8. Repair to roof fabric, about 25mm long. Looks like rubbing from the frame
9. Lack of boost from turbo, gauge reads sub .5 bar
10. Brakes usual oem stopping ability ie poor
11. Clutch bite right at the top of the travel.
12. Drivers seat didn’t go back far enough
13. Handbrake requires adjustment.
Other points of note.
1. Not many receipts
2. One receipt showed that the floor pan o/s had to be repaired. This could explain why the seat wouldn’t go back far enough.
3. Lipscombe Lotus have done the last couple of services

4. Car has got a current MOT – didn’t check tax doh. (probably hasn’t because had to use trade plates on test drive).
5. Car has been registered abroad – Germany/Austria??
6. Engine show signs of salt corrosion. Need to check under car metalwork!
7. Vendor flexible on price but is prepared to wait until next spring to sell if necessary.
8. Would suggest a B+C service.
9. Give Lipscombe Lotus a call to ascertain if car has had any front end damage and under car damage.
