Hi all,
Very new to the Elan owners club! And really happy to be apart of the forum - I only wish my first posting wasnt a cry for help!
I think I have a leak from my power steering fluid. Ive found on a couple of occassions very small puddles - business card size at max.
I am also pretty inept at DIY and cars generally, but looking to learn, so any advice would be appreciated!

To find out if it definitely is this, check all fluid levels & smell the next puddle of fluid you find. I'm not sure if PAS fluid smells, but engine oil certainly does.
If it does prove to be the PAS rack itself, then S2 racks were on the Lotus aftersales list for somewhere around the £130 mark. They do fit the SE though.

Is it common for there to be a little "whush" type noise when turning the steering wheel?
My 91 Elan in BRG is my 5th Lotus after previously owning a 111S,111R,Sport Racer and an NA Exige.

Absolutely! It's an M100 'trait'
Good luck with the car. A while back one of the guys had a pas leak from the pipe at the top of the pump. Where exactly does your 'puddle' come - - I mean what's above the place where the puddle is?

To find out where the leak is place some cardboard under the car and then you should be able to get a relationship between cardboard and the leak like is it the pump or rack or something else.

Thanks Geoff, I could have done a search myself and found the thread but I'm grappling with the pigging rear brakes at present
