Well my Battery is as dead as Dico`s Brain cells

Couldn`t find much reference on here and there`s not much in the handbook about size/dimensions.
The Orginal is a Delco 842
255A
Euro size L2 (which doesn`t help in choosing a Battery)

The one i`ve removed from mine was a Halfords 075

Halfords list ours as 065 & 075

the 065 & 075 size is 242x175x175mm

Another site list the M100 as 027 which is 242x175x190mm, so this battery is 15mm higher than the ones above.

Autoexpress did a review IIRC in 2007 http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/p ... eries.html
and Halfords came 2nd & 3rd, infact there standard battery did better than there Advanced calcium type.

The Halfords aren`t cheap ie £70 to £85, so did a search on the net and found a place more local that do cheaper price batteries

I can confirm that the higher 027 Battery will fit (even with Simons Roll Hoops fitted) but i wouldn`t go any higher lol:

lol, the dead battery i pulled from the Elan was also Halfords Calcium and it`s listed as £85

Put me down for one too (in there when i bought the car). It wasn't holding its charge so I considered changing it, saw the price and figured I'd give it another chance. The jury's out at the moment.

Mind you, I wonder if they'll be in business in three years...

Well courtesy of Halfrauds gaurantee I'm on my 3rd battery from them. I can say in all honesty that they have failed literally a week or so before the gaurantee ran out. So i've had good value from my Halfrauds batteries. It really is a no questions asked gaurantee!

Personlly wouldn't touch a Halford's battery again as I've had several fail on me. Originally thought it may the car leaking current somewhere. In desparation I tried a spare Varta battery from an old Audi which was completely flat - a quick charge (with only a motorbike charger!) and it hasn't missed a beat in over a year.

Wow these are completely different than USA battery sizing... http://www.rtpnet.org/teaa/bcigroup.html

I've just been battery shopping and the 65 and 75 sizes here are HUGELY different! My car had a 26 in it (and only 525 CCA) which seems maybe undersized. It's only 15 months old but completely dead.

lol I hope they will be as I have lots with warrenty with them. I tend to use Halfords now just on the 3yr basis. Those Delco ones are cheap (and nasty), my not used very often track car went through 3 in a year to. The replacement halford one done the job fine for 2 years. Guess with some you get lucky

Halfords battery is a little wider than original equipment, the retaining bracket may need a little adjustment with a hammer to thin the bottom lip a little.
I'm not hugely impressed with the Halfords Calcium battery holding it's charge either.

Im fitting a 'discarnect'......
I nearly always during the wet and wild months end up not using the elan because the moment the sun comes out is the moment I realise I forgot to put it on charge the day before.......
so Im gonna fit one of these for when I park it up in the garage.......Id say probably ideal if your going to keep leaving the car for a couple of weeks or more between starts.......

That's a good idea - my negative battery cable already has a quick-disconnect on it, but I don't plan on utilizing it much since I bought the new Battery Tender for it.

Just a word of warning guys. Those devices are famous for corroding up the same way dry battery terminals do. Its another link in the high amp chain so another point that can cause poor starting. In addition you need to put the bypass link in if you want to maintain the alarm etc. so the battery still drains in 3 or 4 weeks. I prefer the battery conditioner solution using an Opitmate III or similar. Even when I kept a car in a garage without power I managed it on a solar panel. Jm2pw ...

Halfords fitted a new battery for me with no fuss eighteen months ago. It then failed this summer for no apparent reason and I went back and got a new free battery, which appears to be fine. I think the guarantee works from the date of the first battery though.
