Steering wheel boss adaptor for Momo etc - Sold out!

Postby Alan_C » Thu 10.12.2009, 11:01

- solDue to a boss not being available anymore, a Momo/Omp/Mountney etc steering wheel is hard to fit, so I've made an adaptor. This will convert the original SE boss once the horn push and the 4 screws securing the steering wheel have been removed, to accept an aftermarket wheel such as a Momo. Most replacement steering wheels seem to have a 6x70mm PCD mount.

The adaptor simply fits ontop of the original boss, secured with 6 countersunk screws (unless you have a M5 tap, you'll probably only get 4 in, as two of the holes will be damaged due to the factory securing the horn push with self tapers!). Included with the adaptor is a shroud, as it's integral with the original steering wheel. Unfortunately to fit this entails removing the entire original boss, removing the bottom section, dropping the shroud on and reassembling.

My steering column shroud had a bit of a gap at the top, so I'll also include enough push-on trim to cover this, should you need to on yours.

Cost is £55 including UK postage, overseas PM me for additional postage costs. I've only tried this on an SE, not an S2, so can't vouch if it's suitable for an S2 yet.

I will probably only have 6 available, prototype is mine, so five up for grabs.

Probably obvious but worth mentioning that this adaptor will not work on Federal cars due to the air bag and cancelling mechanism.

Colin is quite correct, this WON'T work for any cars fitted with an air bag steering wheel.

Do you lot have any photos of the steering wheels you put on?

I was thinking of getting mine re-leathered so just being nosy and looking for ideas!

Bar alan I don't know if anyone else has theirs on. I'm still looking for one @ the right price - ideally want a leather Momo course In 330 / 320mm. Maybe 300mm.

I don't have any left as I only made a short run. However, if you'd like one I can produce one, but will take maybe a couple of weeks if I can still source the original boss that I need to modify. The bosses came as a job lot, so for a one off I'd have to charge £60 inc UK postage. It's a lot of money for what amounts to an adapter ring and plastic trim, but it does the job, and it's neat as well. PM me if you'd like to go ahead.

Hi Alan Thanks for the reply I will need to think about it as I have been told your adapter is six hole and the elise wheel I am looking at is only four?

I read somewhere on the forum you can take the hub off the original wheel and attach it to the elise one? did you look at this when you were making your hub?

Will let you know

Martin,

Am i right in thinking you're just trying to fit an Elise wheel to the Elan?

If so, nothing magical is required there is (or should be) a write up somewhere on here - otherwise i can re-do it!

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?
