Try HAGERTY for a quote on your classic insurance, i`ve just insured my elan se and excel se both on the same policy (3k miles allowed on each car,agreed value with uk breakdown recovery) for £331. cheap or what!.

FWIW, Hagerty has a strong reputation in the US collector car market. I'm currently using Grundy but am thinking of switching when the insurance is due since Hagerty has a wider view of what's acceptable use. Now, keep your Elan safe so we don't have to find out how good the insurance is!

I was hoping this would come up - I moved everything from State Farm to Geico last year (and saved way more than 15% - about 50%!) but I've been thinking it's a much better idea to put the Lotus on an agreed value plan with Grundy or Hagerty. I think traditional plans would completely screw me should the car every be totaled out (I could imagine receiving a check for about $10k or so which would be quite a depreciation from what I paid).

My current policy expires in like 3 months, so I'm planning to revisit it then.

I have a Classic car policy that covers me for "Organised ie by Lotus on track etc" trackdays as well and it was only £200

I'm away from home so not 100% but I think the company I use is Classic Line.

I insured via hagerty last year for £240, which i thought was very reasonable

My renewal has just come through at £418, which is only 74% more

does anyone know any insurance company, whether home or car, who do not take exisiting customers for granted and treat us all as muppets? Rant over, and i have asked Hagerty to try again whilst wearing their sensible trousers

I've looked at Hagerty and been with several other classic insurers (Footman James, etc) over the last few years. All have plus and minus (eg some incl track days, some have to be garaged, most have a milage limit) but mostly they really do offer insurance cheaper than the mainstream for your classic car. The problem then is that the mainstream then take you to the cleaners on your daily driver(s) and the classic guys wont cover them (normally nothing under 10 years old) so your total insurance bill is huge. As an alternative, I've been using a "home fleet" policy. First year it included the M100 S2, Turbo Esprit, Lotus Carlton, Range Rover Autobiography, Suzuki Jimny for me and SWMBO to drive unlimited miles fully comp for £1000. Second year I'd sold the Carlton and it dropped to £880 (which felt like quite an increase!) Will be interested to see if it remains competitive for year 3 when due in Sept....but lots of companies want high £'00s just for the Rangey on its own. Just a thought for those with several cars.

Classicline have just got back to me - £185, which is very good but just a bit more than Sureterm - like most people I believe that insurance is the same - they never want to pay out no matter what the company or the price!

The good thing with classicline is that it is an agreed value policy, and that they are more local to me (don't know why that seems important, but somehow it does)

I wish I had MPx's fleet problem to worry about! Nice choice of cars (except the Suzuki!)

The M100 is nominally Fran's (hence its reg) but she's not driven it since we moved west to the country lanes in '07. Got her her Jimmy which she loves - ideal for our local roads. That kind of left the Elan for me to play with - hence the upgrades over the last year. "I love it when a plan comes together....."

£175 for me and Mrs Eds with 1500 mile limit - could have been £251 with 6000 mile limit, but decided to get the other one back on the road and run the miles up in that as it's insured for unlimited mileage!

In previous year insured for 3000 miles for £211 and paid a further £17 to increase it to 6000 miles.

For one day that year they also took her off the insurance and put my mate on so he could do the GBoR attempt at Snetterton in it while I used the other. Total additional cost - £ 0.00

And all with an agreed value.

Well got my renewal through from OneCall only went up from about £210 to £1352 !! needless to say they aren't keeping my business. going to Sure Term £202 including recovery and Legal

I'm going with Grundy. Geico - $300/yr (but we all know you'll get totally farked if they ever need to come up with a value for the car as a total loss), Hagerty - $800/yr, Grundy - $400/yr. No contest.

Their use statement concerns me a bit too, but I've had a great chat with them about it and it just seems like they want to make darn sure you aren't using the car for normal everyday transportation and for trips to Home Depot. That keeps the rate so low. I drive my Elan a few hundred miles a year - so this is a good match for me.

I have my Landy Series III insured with American Collectors through USAA. $280/yr, agreed value and 7500 miles per year ..... I'm just not supposed to use it off road

I'll be using them when I pick up an Elan
