Probably a stupid question i know but i need to ask.
The paint on my car is quite flat with dull whiteish patches around the rear spoiler and a few on the bonnet i'll try and post a pic when i can, would any one recommend t cutting as a possible remedy for this or because the car is fiberglass t cutting is not suitable.
eventually i'd like to get ir re-sprayed but currently thats way out of my budget.
Or recommend something similar to t-cut but better?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers Tom

when you say white patches...........erm....how white???
its either the laquer has faded...or....there's moisture in it/under it....
if its the laquer gon eoff then you should be able to use something like t cut.......Ive never done it myself so this is just a guess...
if its under the laquer then I fear you'll not poilsh it out....

just guessing

I would describe it as a mottled patchy look, you can still see the green. I'll try and post a pic tomorrow.

The bodyshop in my village quoted £1,000 for a respray..... (about half of what Steve Williams would charge).
I'm not that far from Iver, either.
If that helps, I could give you their details, and give you a lift back to the nearest station (Didcot, Cholsey, Goring and Streatley, or Reading) when you drop your car off, and pick you up from it when you pick up your car.

Thanks for the offer, I have some serious saving up before I go down that route as i still have a few other thing to sort on the car first as well as doing up the new house, its a shame all these things happen at once. I did buy the car for the long haul though so will def take you up on the offer nearer the time as it would be nice to have a shiny car if the offer is still open then. might try T-cut on a small area and see if this helps, otherwise it'll just be the crapest elan at malvern lol.

It does sound like the usual Elan problem of lifting lacquer. Think of the lacquer as being like a layer of clear varnish that overlays the coloured paint.
What happens is that the lacquer 'blisters', lifting off the paint. This gives paler, whitish patches. Eventually these will start to peel. T-Cut simply won't tackle the problem, because it's not a matter of simply restoring the finish to the underlying paint, which is what T-Cut does. There is no cure for this, apart from rubbing it down and repainting it.
That's why a cheap respray isn't a bad interim step.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?
