Not a lot happening at the moment, it's become very expensive and too cold for my resin to go off; so I built a Polethene cube around the car with a heater and dehumidifier in it. I'm going to sell my BRG SE to help finish the project this year. March should see some serious body work progress and the fuel system shouldn't be too far away.

Expensive bits are Suspension setup, getting the engine running, spray painting and sorting out a set of track wheels and tyres. We'll give it a go at the MOT station. I'll have a breather and then do some aero work. Just bought a Sport 350 Spoiler to keep the floaty back end down on the corners. 8)

I'm not sure what to do about the wheels as I have a brand new set of S2s with new tyres on, which probably aren't the most appropriate choice for the track; I'm looking for an alternative and then I may sell the S2s, to pay for the new ones. +60 offset is proving impossible to find.

I got a set of Compomotive 16" alloys delivered the other week and now the NON PAS Steering Rack is fully fitted and the car back in 1 piece! Hopefully the S2 Alloys will go to a new owner and be put on a car, it's always nice to see parts being used and not stored. But this means I can buy some track tyres and put the car on the floor at last!

Fuel system is almost complete, I just need the joiners for the Pump and filter, although the aero hoses have arrived and are waiting to be fitted. New Oil cooler hoses were also fitted on the weekend and the EGR pipe has been marked for removal.

A big discussion on heat shielding took place as I have been building a new induction system, taking air directly from the front of the car.
My master tech has also advised me on an optimised cooling system, removing the 2ndary water pump and hoses. I had already removed the hoses for the heater matrix, which made this 2nd stage quite strait forward; requiring the purchase of only 1 hose! This will not only reduce weight but create much needed space for the new short induction system. It will also remove hot pipes that sit on and near the pressurised air system, making cooling more effective. A big engine bay tidy up is in full swing!

The weather is also a lot warmer and I have just started back on the bodywork, putting the car on its wheels should help with the sculpting of the back end as it will sit level to the ground.

Photos to follow soon...

Phil, won't you get the pipes jet-hot coated from camcoat, that should save having to bother with heatshields ?

I was planning to do something to the exhaust but that is a good solution, have you used Camcoat before?

I need to shield the induction and presurised air system too so it doesn't absorb any radient heat in the engine bay.
I was thinking of taking the turbo shield off, to allow air flow onto it, to help cool it and vent the air out through the bonnet.

Yes Phil, had all my water pipes done, as the process is very anti-corrosive as well as great for keeping the heat in. Think the bloke i dealt with was Peter Carter, they were very helpful. Think Monty may of had exhaust pipe done as well.

It's coming along nicely Phil. I like the compomotive wheels, what offset are they? I've also fired you a PM.

Compomotives are off-set by 53 mm, they advertise a 60 mm off-set but have not made any for a long time.
Chris did say it might be possible to get the 60 mm done as they have the tools, but not enough demand to do a run of castings.
Maybe an LEC Group Buy?

MO1673 7X16 so it's slightly narrower than the original, as the offset difference is almost cancelled out by the narrower rim, there is only about 2 mm difference between these and a 60mm S2 wheel.

Speak to Chris, hes all right: Chris@Compomotive.co.uk although they are all probably all right there, as it's a decent company.

Yes had the down pipe (Stiffy) done in the Black Ceramic coating 1000 degrees C

Wow... what a project. Looking forward to seeing the result in action when it's done!

One of my colleagues in work is most of the way through building a kit car (http://www.marlinsportscars.co.uk/5exi/self-build/). He's into projects like this, while he was a student he designed a built a lightweight track car pretty much from scratch. I was talking to him the other day about the Lotus parts sale list and we noticed that you can get an Esprit chassis for £650 - that could form a good basis for some crazy projects...

Under the badge where your clam shell is. I don't have a front topshell on mine, just 1 giant Carbon bonnet.

How much did the down pipe coating cost you?

Incidentally your 'special' light pannel weighs in at just over 1kg

Nothing wrong with a light weight :-D

My short indction is coming on nicely, although the filter is backwards it is structurally just the same
it needs to be oiled on the other side before I test it.

My SJ Sportscars bumper has arrived and is noticably lighter than the original! :-D I asked Steve to make me one with less glass and resin, I'm sure it could be lighter still but I don't have a mould and the SJ one is a very good price!

"The component-form 5EXi can be put together in around 120 hours" That's Technic Lego for grown ups!

2 seater chassis hmm smells like a GT 3 car in the making. 8)

That's what I thought but apparently it's all lies... His kit even needed some bending 'n welding when the bits turned up!
I think you can pay extra for them to basically finish everything to the "just bolt together" stage...

Almost ready to cut the induction and turbo cooling vents

New induction fitted, it needs a little refinement and the whole engine bay needs a clean.

EGR System has been removed so next is to blank the holes off.

The PAS/Altenator Pully is off and I'll part off the PAS section this weekend god willing.

Auxillary water pump system has been removed and replaced with a strait (un branched) bottom hose.
