Thanks for the reply Alan. Here is my fail certificate.

As can be seen the Sportscat can cope at natural idle, and indeed deals with the Hydrocarbons at fast idle. Trouble is there is just too much CO2 at fast idle. So what I was chasing was the idea of a pure MOT specific programme (not for road use!) substituting into one of the V5 Switcher numbers, that really leaned out the fuel such that it could pass the CO2 test in the 2500 to 3000rpm (doesn't really need to achieve anything else other than not stall !). To the untutored eye, my current output of <.6% is much closer to the Cat test limit of 0.3% than the non-cat limit of 3.5%.....
Its probably an area not looked at before, but would be dead handy for S2 owners!

What about low level boost at 2000+RPM - carbon monoxide is due to incomplete combustion so add some more oxygen.

It seems odd that you are getting a CO that high at high revs. I would guess you have an issue somewhere. Have you used ElanScan to look at the sensor readings? I would look at the CTS, MAT, MAP & oxygen sensors as possible culprits. Where on the gauge does you temperature settle?

I'll do an Elanscan run after Malvern (or maybe at Malvern

). Temperature guage has always sat at 1/4 once warm unless in stop/start traffic when it goes up to 3/4 and the fans cut in.

Maybe you should program the v5 switcher with the stock California PROM code as a special "Emissions testing" mode. Current California testing is done on a rolling road measured at 15 and 25 mph. At both speeds, my CO% measured .02%. I barely passed my Oxides of Nitrogen (PPM) at 708, just below the 774 PPM max. If it passes California, it'll probably pass anywhere.

This might be an obvious question and perhaps already covered, but are you running a closed-loop system with an O2 sensor or an open-loop system?

this reading was taken from Smaug, with a Garrett turbo conversion, no precat, 2.5" cat (not sporty but Cali certified) and 550cc injectors. Deffo not standard.
Edit: closed loop operation and the O2 sensor is new(ish)

Interesting...that shows what's possible then Tigerdog!
Sorry Knut, I'm not really sure what open/closed loop differences are or how to know what's going on

. I'm guessing its maybe with a Lambda sensor or without cos I know most SEs dont have one? If its that then I do have a Lambda sensor....indeed I have a shiney new one thats just cost close to £300 so I assume is working a treat if no differently from the one that was replaced!!
Will try and do an Elanscan this week...

Knut
Mike has an S2 Knut and these are all closed loop and were loaded with pre and main cat when new.

Correct.
Your ECU responds to data from the O2 (Lambda) sensor hence closed-loop.
An open-loop system has no lambda sensor so mixture is pre-set by the CO pot, which is maybe calibrated once in a blue moon by a mechanic & exhaust gas analyser. If anything drifts out of adjustment or suffers from wear, then the mixture will be out.
All UK SE's were open-loop although most had the necessary wiring so can be converted by the addition of an O2 sensor & fitting a 1499 memcal into the ECU.

OK....went out for a brake test run yesterday and hopefully captured the files. If its relevent I change the capture period to 10ms from 200ms as suggested by Geoff for brake testing. This one is just coming home so no particularly hard acceleration or braking. Does it show any issues with any of the sensors suggested above?

Just passed the MOT with my closed loop conversion

Well at least the emission's side of things - rear brakes another story
Last year struggled to get the O2 reading below 4% (Max for an SE in UK is 3.5%)
This year 0.4%
Deceived me for a bit as my brain only registered the 4 bit on the meter and thought - here we go again

But no, even the tester was amazed !
Big thanks to ESM

Anyone got any feedback on this Elanscan run? Do I need to do another? Longer, shorter, different settings, different driving style? I got our '07 Suzuki Jimny MOT'd this week. The emissions sheet shows CO for both idle and fast idle at 0.00%

!! That's pretty low - so how come its not free of car tax??
Cheers Mike

If only! Unfortunately its Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and not Carbon Monoxide (CO) that attracts the tax

The email link on my messages on LEC seems to work ok, when I test it at least. There were a couple of old pipex email address references on the appee site that I've fixed now.

Glad to hear it was just bad address links. Was beginning to worry just a bit.

Hi,
I'm also having problems getting in touch with ESM so hopefully someone on here will be able to help.
I'm hoping to buy a Kilimanjaro mountain chip and wanted some advice about which one to order.
My car's a 1991 SE and the ECU has 9929 on it, which suggests I should go for a '9929 Kilimanjaro'. The reason for my uncertainty is because I've just had problems getting the car to pass the emissions test on last Friday's MOT.
I'm going to go 'closed loop' as soon as I get a chip so would like to know should I go for the 9930, as I'm having emissions problems, or will the combination of the O2 sensor and a 9929 solve this?
Thanks in advance.
