I have new messages but I can't see them. When I get email notification of a new message the body of text from the massage is omitted

I don't know what the massages say, they could be abusive and i could be missing out on returning some abuse!

Think I've spotted another error......

When I receive e-mail notification that a watched topic has had a reply, that e-mail now doesn't have the text of the latest post, just a link to view it.

Any chance this feature could be reinstated? I used it alot as the new post notification emails are sent to my iPhone and I could easily read the new post without having to access the Internet to read them, now I can't see what's been said and if I'm in an area without fast data it's very frustrating knowing there's a new post but not knowing what it is! Please?

Ditto that. Also, please try to get the "mark all posts read" link back up soon.

I'm really sorry guys, but these features aren't coming back - at least not in the near future.

I understand that it's a bit of a step back in terms of functionality for those of you who used that functionality, but these were non-standard modifications applied to the board software, which while useful, meant that upgrades and keeping the board secure was harder and took way more time to complete than if we were to stick with the stock software. The reality is that this extra time has to be found by me, and I just don't have it at the moment.

We've discussed this in the admin team and the consensus is that it's more important to have a stable secure board that everyone can rely on rather than add in patched on modules and increase the risk of losing the board for extended periods of time.

So: I feel your pain (and thanks for the PM Alan, sorry I didn't reply in person), but I hope that you'll understand the reasoning behind the decision.

Just to add my thoughts and reasoning, as Al has said we have agreed and it my strong view that the priority must be a secure and stable board, some of the nice to have whistles and bells features are add in that make maintaining the board as stable and secure as we would wish considerably more difficult and require a lot more time and efforet from the very few individuals who have the necessary skills and knowledge to maintain the inner workings of the board. The decision not to re-instate these features is therefore a regretable but essential one. For those who used these features and will tmiss hem it's unfortunate but the overall continued safe existence of the forum is my overriding priority.

I've removed all LEC cookies (several times!) but still have to log in each time I come to the board - 'log on automatically' doesn't seem to work. Not a big deal, but just wondering if it's a common problem at the mo.....

Safari has always been a bit out of kilter, even more on the Iphone....

I've no "unread posts" on Safari, but have on IE8 and firefox...(Just weird)

at the moment the Jedi council are addressing the issues one by one...

I think it's a case of two steps forward, one step back...

Well I'm off out to get a Chinese, much like the admins.

No worries on the features. I understand the level of effort required to keep a system running and am a firm believer in "plain vanilla" software that's easily diagnosed and maintained. Thanks for keeping us live!

Al, I fully understand the decisions about the add-on modules, and concur that site security and ease of rebuild are more important - I myself support many IT systems for the BBC, and boy, when they melt down and the customer wants it back up as it was, but the system had been tweeked and poked it's a real pain to re-configure, if it's even possible. Sure I'll miss some of the old LEC features, but the forum remains, and is still as useful and feature rich in content as it ever was. I'd like to offer my hearfelt thanks to the dedicated admins who maintain this site and put all the effort into ensuring it's continued existance - cheers guys! Without this forum, I'm sure I would have floundered with the myriad of niggles and faults that the last 9 months of Elan ownership has bought me - not only has LEC enabled me to fix them and improve the car in many areas, I've also made many friends non of whom I would have met, ate or drank with.

The iMac, Mac book and iPhone have no problems with the LEC site, it works for me
It logs me in automatically
The main funtion of the site is still running as it should that's the main thing, missing a few smilies dose it really matter?
