And presumably they have MOT'd and re-taxed it in order to make it legally test-driveable.

I think that he got rid of that one and bought another that Clemo sold to him. He spent quite a bit of money on it, he is probably trying to recover some of it. Anyway, he always was a bit unconventional.

They've described it as Rioja Red but I assume it's Silk Red as I can't see Rioja as being an original colour, unless it's been resprayed in a non standard colour.

standard dealer " i havent a clue " write up... no abs and as you say silk red.
not sure who's car it was , it could well be a short shift unless they have just mistaken it for a set of s2 gear linkage cables ..

Ok, so I suppose you can excuse the wrong colour name.
You don't have to look very hard to see an Elan does not have ABS though. If they have got that wrong, I can't see how they would know the difference between SE & S2 gear cables...
I've never seen stripes like that on the seats: they only go across the middle sections. Looks like it's been re-upholstered.

yep.. seats wise ...if the seats were originaly red stripes then the door cards would have a red stripe in them,
i reckon these ones may have been coloured in black. as later se seats are perforated none striped.

Short shift gear cables? There's no such thing - they're all the same length!
Also I'd be a little suspect about those tyres. Eagle F1's were fantastic in their day, but they've not been available for SE wheels for a very long time now.
I agree with everyone else - the dealer knows bog all.
Look elsewhere.

However the time has come for a change and the Elan is a car i have admired for a long time and i think will suit my needs and its British!. I have two questions if someone is able to help, first, will i get in one? 6'5 but slim build, am i going to end up with knees and elbows clashing or slumped in a seat just so i don't put my head through the roof? secondly i have seen one advertised by giles cooper automotive, H834 FRK with 109K. Does anyone have any knowledge of this car? good, bad or indifferent, before i spend time traveling. Thank for any assistance.

At 6'5 you will probably be one of our taller member !

tht said the designer of the elan was over 6ft as well .
Some members take out the 4 base feet ( looking for the right word , bump up feet like things) on the seat runners.
that will drop you a further 1.5" . also removing the flappy sun visor will help.

As for what to look for have a read of the "buying help" section , most should be covered .. Then ask away!

109 k is nothing on these engine as long as they have been looked after,
grahame had 250k on his and that was a few years ago.

First M100 I ever drove was when they first came out and I happened to be in Bell and Colvills. Martin Colvill was using a silver one as his personal car at the time and we went for a test drive. He's well over 6 foot too and didn't seem to have any trouble at all. However, I'm a long body short legged 6 foot and I have found that while my head doesn't bash the roof (even in a crash helmet) I do still look down to see out of the windscreen which gives a sort of pillar box view. Not too bad, but (eg) I cant see traffic lights if I'm at the front of the queue without serious contortions. No problem with the roof down of course so that is the preferred option.
