Oil Sensor thread size

Postby abmunro » Sun 20.06.2010, 20:52

I am ordering a Stack Oil Pressure gauge to match my new turbo Gauge.

I was going to order a Tee Piece,

Is the oil pressure sent to the ECU as well as to the gauge?

So I need to know what size the thread is into the engine block.

Cheers Tony

This is what I want to order

The OEM sensor should work fine. It's a VDO unit with a 1/8 NPT thread in the block just above the oil filter

Hmm, mine is not 1/8" NPT or 1/16 npt, it seems to fall between the 2. It is a pipe thread, starting small and getting
larger as it goes up the thread. Any idea what the size is?

I want to remove the stock sensor and put one in with a 1/8 pipe thread.

If the previous attempt at sorting out what thread the sender is is any thing to go by then I do not think it is 1/8 NPT but 1/8 BSTP.
There are some slight differences
1/8 NPT tapered thread nominal diameter 9.49mm pitch 0.94mm 27 threads per inch
1/8 BSTP tapered thread nominal diameter 9.72mm pitch 0.907mm 28 threads per inch.

I would suspect that as the engine is made in Japan they have used 1/8 BSTP not NPT

I had problems with my oil pressure sender previously. I couldn't get the correct thread size and I had to fabricate one. I think the standard was 1/8 NPT but interestingly the thread at the engine block was 1/8 BPST. however, I'm not completely sure. Maybe you can search in one of my posts (kinda hard to do that on my mobile cos I have no access to a PC these few days)

found the thread

hope there's some useful information for you
