Sounds like a good plan since the previous owner was not as careful as I am!

Where is he going to find the oil pans? I swear, he got the last new one in the US last year.

Is this an 'authorised' list, or just an "I hope it may happen, and want to get my name down, just in case" type of list?????

The basic 'rules' of a group buy are group buy here, & i would draw your attention to paragraph (4).

Whilst they have never been set in stone, they seem to generally work.......

(now awaiting something from Specky or Jon to confirm, and in the meantime I'll let it run, whilst watching and ready to lock the thread, delete specific entries or fry it altogether  )

One thing i would say, purely from a Gentlemanly point of view, please bear in mind that there are members on here who have (only recently) been asking to buy oil pans due to severe damage of their items, and i would imagine that there is only likely to be a limited stock of these wherever they may get found (if at all!!!).
As such, once an 'official' list becomes established, I'm sure that Jay (TJi) would be interested in joining the list, and of course, Justin always needs one ;-) , and there is still a bit of room in my conservatory :-D :-D :-D
So, maybe, those who 'need' may get a favourable position on the list over those who 'want' just in case :?

Of course, I have no official say in this, but just make a passing observation..........

I'm always surprised that that principle of need over stockpiling isn't always uppermost in Group buys and sales on this forum, having missed out on things that I really needed when someone beat me to it, when all they needed was a 'just in case' spare.

In this case, I have a repaired but weeping split in mine (as Bob Brown can confirm!), though naturally there may be people whose oil pans are more damaged, and I'd naturally be happy to see them take priority.

My intent in starting this thread was merely to give people the chance to express an interest - I am in breach of rule 4. It is not authorised. It is indeed a "Specky has stated on this forum that an oil pan Group buy will be the next that he undertakes, I hope that it may happen, and I wanted to help streamline the process AND get my name down, just in case" list.

And on the basis that if for any reason Dave Speck does not organise such a list, then I am minded to look into organising one myself, though (lacking Dave Speck's contacts, knowledge, competence and charm, and with preparing for the High Court taking a little of my f*cking time at the mo) I would be a very sub-optimal choice as organiser.

I plead "only trying to help" as my defence.

This raises a number of points - some worthy of addressing, and some totally subjective - all of which does nothing for the thread, but as i believe it is more of a wish list than a firm group buy, i don't care if i take it off topic (just a bit)

Jon,

I truely believe that the majority of LEC members also accept that there are people in NEED, and they should take precedence over those that WANT - sometimes it is less of an issue than others, for a variety of reasons.......

consider this a minute, if there is an unlimited supply, and the buy is arranged to merely bring the price down, there is never a problem.

However, there are a couple of times when it may cause an issue....

consider things like the recent buy for an areal - it is accepted that this buy will (most likely) make the item totally obsolete from the factory - they ain't gonna re-stock are they!!!! but it is the sort of item that you could manage without, use a different one, or possibly get because someone (  ) picked up a couple for Justin from the original aftersales event, and may know where he can lay his hands on one.

Next, consider the oil pan (and i fully accept your NEED for this item, from posts i have seen you make previously) - no-one knows if there are ANY of these anywhere, or if so, how many - so it is difficult to try and assess any priority...... We also accept that once these (if any) are gone, then that is it - full stop.

As such, part of me says "get one while you can, 'cos when they're gone, you may hit a brick in the road", but then i already have a spare (sort of) in that i have a spare engine, so i don't NEED one.

The reality is, that if i bought one, then there is a good chance that i'd store it for a couple of years then end up selling it on at cost price to a LECer in need, but at least the karma stays in the green range of the scale. For any who doubt my integrity on this, and feel that i might be wanting to make a couple of bucks by abusing my position, i can provide details of everything i currently stock, and if you can demonstrate a NEED, you can have it for what it owes me, even if i feel i might want it in the future.
Anyone who was at the original aftersales event will tell you that EVERYONE who was there on that first "Owners Club" day worked on the same principle, with LEC/LEF members all happily swapping places in the queue, and moving stock about so we all got a fair shout and no-one went home in NEED when someone else had something IN CASE.
Also, at the Evora Launch event at Hethel, Nige, myself, Monty, Gareth, Geoff and others all got whatever we thought others may NEED, as well as what we each wanted - as such, i have been able to supply cam covers, deck seals and other 'obsolete' parts to a few people, we did this purely to avoid them getting into the hands of people who are open dealers (and i have nothing against them, it is their business, and i accept that they may need to have capital tied up for a while, and still need to make a profit), and also anyone else who may fancy sticking them on flea-bay at a huge markup, or worse still, offering them on THIS site at stupid prices, and expect ME not to make a reply.

Then there is the issue of 're-manufactured and/or fabricated items" - when does a desire to improve what we already have (and it still works), become a "need"?? - usually 10 minutes after getting the failure sheet at the MOT, i would suggest. But does that mean you can ask to be upgraded in any list? or that the organiser should take half a day off work to make you a new "Overvalve flange grommit"?

Most of us would recognise it as a need not because it failed an MOT, but because it could be a danger if left (not necessarily the same!!!), and would relinquish a place in a queue/list accordingly.

But what would then happen if the material price went up before the second batch were made up, and the good sole who let his bits go, now gets stung for an extra fiver? - and don't say it would never happen, and we'd all be gentlemen, 'cos i can tell you it has happened, and not everyone was a gentleman (or lady), and as a result, many people were quite a few quid out of profit - but notably, still try their b est to help out everyone else - such is the general spirit of this forum.

Well, thats my rant/rave over - nowt to do with this wish list, but who cares  :-D :?

I managed to get a new one of these from Lotus, last November, after failing to find one anywhere else!

Are Lotus out of them as well now?

You lot have been busy,

Lets start with all the questions:-

Not telling....(I'm working on a plan)

dapinky wrote:Is this an 'authorised' list, or just an "I hope it may happen, and want to get my name down, just in case" type of list?????

I aint Aufrized nuffing!!!, It's Jon's list,

dapinky wrote:consider things like the recent buy for an Aerial - it is accepted that this buy will (most likely) make the item totally obsolete from the factory

"I cut down the cherry tree with my hatchet. I cannot tell a lie."

Oops,

I can confirm they are now totally obsolete at the factory and the LEC are the only holders of such item according to their computer system.

Monty wrote:Can`t be bothered reading all that

Dry your eyes Princess?

I had too......

and I'm nothing to do with this thread....

and I've gotta a hangover from hell...

and I'm tired...

and It's hot...

Note to self... Man up wet pants ;-)

inkitin wrote:Are Lotus out of them as well now?

Nope, usual suspects and all that.

Monty and Dico wrote:what animal would you like to be in a zoo if you had the choice?

a Polar Bear, Monty wouldn't read this far down, so I'm safe,

Thanks for putting me on the list,

I don't really need one, especially as Tigerdog obtained the last (U.S. based) Isuzu oil sump. (and it came my way) :)

and as a man of my word....

Finally you may find this intresting,

( I wanna do the next group buy... Oil pans... Don't get excited I'm still working on it)

I'm gonna lock the thread for a few reasons,

Firstly because it's not important to me a this stage of how many people would like a pan due to the fact I've got to broker a pottential deal and take it from there.

I would rather have all the details to hand so each and everyone of you can make an informed decission on any pottential purchase.

If for any reason someone else would like to run with there own oil pan aquistion group buy please feel free, I can even open this thread again.

I'll get there eventually, but it might take a little while. (Do you know how hard these oil pans are to find???) :-D
