Don't the latest Macs run on an Intel chip so you can dual boot?
If not, there's virtual PC.

I've got a tiny and very smart netbook, a Sumsung NC10. Runs Windows XP and has USB ports, very compact to run ElanScan on and the battery lasts for hours and hours. Not expensive either, as PC/laptops go.

Very good machine - got to love the Atom processors. I setup & configured one for a lawyer and then did about 25 more in short order after she went to a conference -- at one stage had a queue of the buggers in my workshop.

I'd also thought one of the NC10s would make a great on board computer in an Elan for media centre, GPS nav, elanscan, etc. Problem is where you'd put a touch screen without losing a std 1 din unit and the centre vents...

Angie has recently replaced her IBM laptop with a Samsung N130 netbook and loves it (probably because it's pink ).

Last year i looked into a 'built in' carputer using my old IBM T30 onto a permanently wired docking station in the boot/hood tray, so i could have it set as a datalogger on elanscan, media player, satnav and interweb etc..... never got too far past the planning stage, mainly due to the head unit (i was looking at a single DIN unit with a flip-up screen) but remain unsure if it would obscure the vents too much

May be time to re-consider with a netbook .......... now they are getting more affordable, with solid state memory and good battery life, it could become a whole lot easier/more reliable........

Steve, the interface drivers support MacOS and even if you can't run ElanScan in virtual PC or with dual boot (I've got the youngest looking at it now as he has a Mac) then I have almost cloned ElanScan in LabVIEW and I believe it can be compiled for Macs.

Plugs are in Paris so maybe not this weekend. If anyone else wants one, please shout now so I can order up the hardware and build them all in one batch.

Scogger - do you want one or are you going to wait to see if the MacElanScan project fails to materialise?

TrevorC - Is it a Lotus or Vauxhall Carlton? You won't be able to use ElanScan on either but I've had a quick check and found some information on the Lotus who refer to Autobahnstormers who may have GM information, so there is probably a CarltonScan or similar available. The only other question is what does the Carlton ALDL plug look like? If it's the same as the Elan then all well and good but if it is different, I can try and source one and give you a plugable option.

Many thanks for this. My (other ) car is a Lotus CArlton and, yes, the ALDL looks the same.
If you are making up a batch of M100/Elanscan cables, then yes please. Code14 on my S2(no 066) is driving me barmy at the moment. I'll then have a wire to connect the Carlton to a laptop and I can then speak to the Autobarnstormer boys about some software.

I should have USB interfaces by the weekend and I have a spare USB to serial converter (although Dermot had problems with his so I wanted to try it out before sending it out). Do you want me to put one in with the manifold?

I guess my Elanscan is no good to me now as I have fitted Haltech...

I'm keeping old ecu so it can be made origonal on my DEATH ( I intend keeping the car )

But if anyone wants to borrow mine, It is available.
