I had exactly the same symptoms when the take-off pipe from the plenum to the MAP sensor failed. Replacement bit £10 from SJ Sportscars! So worth checking.

Hi All, thanks again for all the advice, i will be having a good look at it over the next few days, as a local member has offered to help me with trying to sort it out, which i am gratefull for, will see how that goes, will have a look at the pipe to the map sensor at the same time to check its condition.

No problem Nick - glad to see you're going to try and sort it out as it sounds like the problem is not going to be too difficult (or expensive) to fix. If the past is anything to go by, you will probably get a lot of support and offers of help from people on LEC.

Hi, back again on this problem, Firstly many thanks to the local member Mikeydude who come round and gave up some of his valuble time to see if we could sort the car out, but to no avail, we have got rid of a code 34 map sensor reading that was there, but car is no different. he did get some sketchy elen scan data , but not sure how much till he checks it, the connection kept failing.
One of the things we discussed was the speedo is not working, there is apperantly a sensor on it, would that have any effect on its running? doubt full, but stranger things etc!

Hi Just been looking for an Elan that I used to own M333 LAN and came across your post. I realise that the post is over 5 years ago, but just thought I would add a few points to the possible cause of the problem. I reluctantly traded the car to a dealer and regretted not just keeping it in storage. The car ran perfectly when I had it and during my ownership had a cam belt and CAS sensor fitted this could not be long before you owned it. The radio was nicked out of the car and after it had running problems as you are describing. Behind the dash board there is a vacuum pipe that from memory goes to the boost gauge, this had become dislodge in the theft and caused all sorts of running problems and false code numbers, engine management light, etc. Just popped the pipe back on the gauge and it ran like a dream again.

M333 LAN still exists, in a garage outside Huntly Aberdeenshire
it is in the process of a chassis out strip and restore project - although unfortunately other stuff has put a delay on progress for way too long
all the major chassis parts, suspension, brakes etc. are ready for re assembly
engine was in fine fettle before the strip but will be next for a cosmetic and all round service component change inc. head gasket, belts etc..- and a spare engine now sits beside it
the body work in general is ok, not perfect but not in desperate need of paint, so it may not get a re work for the moment - the tub outriggers A and B post sections have been treated
so - overall its past the hump, most of the crap jobs have been done - and now its a big jigsaw puzzle awaiting spanners - but there is a real nasty lurking in the back ground - the garage up the road from me has a 2001 V8 twin turbo Esprit turning into green mould - it has been left there for 2 yrs now because of an ECU failure - and I can't get the owner to see sense - - - - - - - - yet!
