possible mini project S2 (SOLD we think)

Postby birchy » Thu 15.07.2010, 19:03

Hi all, bought this car recently, and have done a lot of jobs to it to improve, am still working on it when the time allows, but i have been told i will more than likely have to go on short time after the hols, so i cannot really afford to spend any money on it at present just in case.
I found some info on the car on this forum after i bought the car, some accurate, some not, so if anyone is interested ring me up, and have a chat, i am not out to get anything out of the car, just what ive put in if i have to let it go. brief details are as follows.
1995 s2 in what i think is pacific blue, looks all original spec as far as i can tell. now has an mot, all brakes un seized, and it drives, but does not run correctly, (see post in problems section) no smoke, and sounds ok engine wise basically, so just something linked to it causing the problem, not the engine itself. interior is tidy, just a 2" split in side seam on seat base req att. it is plain blue leather.converted handbrake to work as std, dont like the quick release. but can easily go back. have got a few bits that were broken or missing of members, and fitted them. hood is serviceable, and looks good now i have fixed a few bits of stitching, and re sealed the main seam, re coloured the hood, and re proofed it as well. body is in my opinion straight and tidy, few bits could do with att if you want it 100%, but looks presentable as it is, wheels also similarin cond. reg on car is M333 LAN, which reads as near as damn 'elan' if you had some new plates made with the space moved! Speedo does not work, there is absoluetly no history, and it was reg as a cat d ins claim i was told when i bought it, by the seller, think it was a forum member who found that out via a hpi. and told him? not checked myself, but no notes on document, which is in my name now. cant see what it may have been for, perhaps stolen recovered.
Please dont knock it as not everyone can afford a 5/6k one, and it is still not a bad car, always fires up, and does not drain the battery when stood, as was said on the posts i read after i bought it. just a car that needs some more tlc to get it right. someone with the knowledge would have this right in a weekend i am sure, i just cant throw the money at it just now, so rather than it sit here, i might as well go to someone who can.
Looking for 3k for it, cheap for an S2 according to all accounts. will prob advertise it after hols on ebay or such like if work outlook is not improved. Rather an enthusiast had it. give us a ring if int, 07855043415, Nick, am in blackburn lancs.
PS, if some local expert can help me get it running right i will keep it, as i love the shape, and always fancied one, so please get in touch if you can help.

Hi, just a small update on the car, am at the moment deciding weither to go down the route of getting the car fixed, either to sell it right, or for myself if i can afford to keep it, I have had some new plates made up to read 'elan', and they look great, also i have had the split seat prof repaired, and fitted a CD player. sorted a new boot lock assy, and generally made it tidyer all round. At this time, if someone came to me with 2.5k it would be thiers, i would just take the hit, and wait for better times to own an elan. thanks Nick

Hello mate...you are only a stones throw from us...we have a great group of local elan owners that could really support you.
It's a pity you are selling...these are not expensive cars to run.

What's not running right on it?

We are having a BBQ at our place (Rochdale) on 15th Aug there will be a few M100 fans there and loads of other lotus owners...why not pop down for a chat

hello mate i know this car i went to see it before the guy put it on ebay. it was quite a project, but it looked mostly cosmetic, but without hitory and a cat D (which i had to find out about for myself) i decided it was too risky. It is an Azure S2, i couldnt find any data on it through the lotus dealers, but i did an HPI check which i think someone else posted on this forum, type in the edition number from the dash and it will come up.

Personaly if you want my advice if your serious about elan ownership save up for the best example you can find, having bought i cheap one and suffered at its hands i can say with the best will in the world its tough and alot more expensive in the long run.

if i can be of any help feel free to email me

Hi, Have decided for the moment to try and keep the car, and sort it out, as a local member has offered to help me see if we can find the running problems source. Thanks to anyone who replied. Nick

As far as I'm aware this car has now been sold on by the OP so is no longer available.
