Well done! I messed up with my renewal this year. Cheapest sensible quote was £275 inc legal, which I went with. Only to get a letter 2 days later from Heritage quoting £211. If I cancel with the first company, they'll sting me £10 for the cancellation, plus a whopping £51 policy set up charge which is non-refundable. Even though the law states I have a cooling off period of 14 days and am entitled to a full policy refund. The policy set-up fee is not mentioned in law, so they get away with it. Theiving bast**ds. So no point cancelling.

Okay, that bit was firmly tongue-in-cheek - but the deal was still good!
used to have a Trade Policy many years ago, when they were cheap and easy to get, but then it all got too hard, so i ended up doing the cars seperately - but it appears to have gone full circle, and i might try and get the Dollomites covered on the same sort of scheme -even though they are a bit specific.... we'll see

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

FJ quoted me £367 without bonus protection as a renewal. :?

Another vote for 2Gether Insurance - £130 for 3000 miles, £50 excess and £75 windscreen. Need to get independent valuation though. Agreed value otherwise included. Contact 01945 465508 based in Wisbech, Cambs.

Thanks for telling us about 2gether.

Until now I’ve had mine on an ordinary insurance policy using one of my two full No Claims Discounts.

Last year I paid £105.

While trying to talk this years' quote down the agent pointed out a slight problem in having a “Classic Car” on an ordinary policy ... in the case of a write off they may just look upon it as an “old car” and give you a few hundred pounds.

It’s now with 2gether ... I need to send 6 photographs – one each side – front – back – inside – under bonnet along with an independent valuation in the next 30 days.

Hi guys,

Newbie here just bought an Elan to go with my older Lotus's.

My day job is as an insurance broker and as my hobbie/passion is all things Lotus we have a special Lotus insurance scheme.

We can cater for all Loti not just Elans from the rarley used classic to the highly modified track car. I am happy to help all members with any insurance queries or problems whether you are insured with me or not. Help with claims advice or the best way to go about insuring second cars that sort of thing. A sort of insurance agony aunt!
If you need any help get me at kim.eaton@routenchaplin.co.uk or send me a PM

The M100 is living up to expectations so far and is being used as a daily driver, it's done about 70k miles and seems in fairly good nick, anything I should be watching out for mechanically? Note: Wishbones/ suspension is all ok. Thinking more of engine/turbo and gear box.

Well after a fun 2 hours ringing around here's the scores on the doors with modifications declared (Everest Chip and brakes), European Breakdown and Insurance cover, 3000k mileage and £6000 agreed valuation, self and missus named drivers.

Peter James - 0121 506 6040 - £373.56
Heritage - 0845 330 0660 - £354.26 (Chaucer Insurance)
Footman James - 0845 458 4356 - £344.34 (5000 miles came in at £428.08)
Adrian Flux - 0800 369 8590 - £309.00 (5000 miles came in at £339.25) (Trinity Lane Insurance)
Classic Line - 01455 639000 - £240.00 (Chaucer Insurance)
2gether - 01945 465508 - £still waiting for a call back - apparently they are snowed under
Performance Direct -0844 573 3567 - wouldn't quote due to the mods - passed my call on and ended up at Adrian Flux
So Classic have it so far unless 2gether come back with a good quote - only concern is the difference between them and Heritage - same insurance company (Chaucer) but 50% difference in price

I've not insured an Elan before, so a quick question about alarms for UK insurance - am I going to see a large increase in the premium if I don't have an alarm fitted? Or find as I have before that some insurers just won't be interested without the alarm?

Cheers,

I thought that most Elans had alarms/immobilisers as standard?

A lot will depend on where the car is kept, insurers rate by post code as well as a host of other factors so if you live in an area which has had high losses then insurers may well insist on an alarm. I would suggest that you start to get some quotes and you will soon see what they are asking for. As per my earlier post if you need any help give me a call as we run a Lotus Insurance Scheme.

well if the suspension and wishbones are fine there probably isn't much to worry about - the engine is pretty bomb proof, the Turbo can stick - best thing to stop this is to give is a bit of a thrashing from time to time, and the gearbox is pretty good too - the gearstick is supposed to feel like a stick of celery - you can always get a short shifter to tighten it up and a replacement gearknob off Ebay - probably one of the gearknobs that look like a golf club which will take more of the gear stick shaft and make it shorter without having to cut it http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=gear ... m270.l1313 just avoid metal ones - they apparently can get very hot in the summer

Yeah, sure you're right. Just not sure about the particular one I'm looking at.I've had trouble in the past with insurers getting picky about some combination of alarms and/or trackers!

Thanks for the info.
