Not getting the full picture ?

Postby Specky » Wed 25.08.2010, 15:21

When you view this picture what do you see?

Half a gearbox or a full gearbox?

The uber mechanical geeks will see two gearboxs, but the above question is the one that counts.

You should see a full gearbox.

I get the full pic on Firefox, but when i have a 'sidebar' open (eg Bookmarks), then it cuts the pic down to what Ray indicates with the red line, with no option to scroll accross to the bit that was required - so I can see the potential problem with the original posting......

No prob on work PC with IE8 - half the pic, but with an option to scroll accross.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Easiest fix is to ask the powers that be (is it Al?) change the bulletin board code to add a style to the posted images to force it to (say) 75% width.

The image will then resize to fit into the size of the browser window (and dynamically change when you resize the window).

Code: Select all
<img style="width:75%" src="http://i615.photobucket.com/albums/tt234/Elan_SE/100_1221.jpg" />

Try it yourself by saving the line above in a text file with an 'htm' extension and then opening it with a browser.

... while I'm here ... if I post a picture bigger than about 550 pixels wide it shows on the LEC screen like so

...
LEC Picture Qn.jpg

and needs opening.

Other people seem to be able to post pictures that almost fill the screen, but are allready opened.

Jon for instance with the magazine shots ... 800 wide

Tis a mystery :?

Hi Ray,

If you upload your pictures using the 'upload attachment' function when posting a message (and then do the 'display inline' thingy), you are limited by the size of the file and the max width & height.

If you upload the picture elsewhere (like photobucket) and then just put in an image tag with URL that points to your photobucket picture, it displays the full picture at whatever size it is on photobucket.

Hope that makes sense.

Martin.

Don't forget Photobucket is in theory a free hosting sight. We (The LEC) pay for our little chunk of cyberspace, so our hand is forced to limit the size of photographs, avatars etc... due to storage space. As Geoff would say "all donations welcome" and a small deposit his way never goes a miss.

Just keeping you in the picture...

I think it's due to the sreen size, if your wide screen full picture, square screen 3/4 :?

So whar Maz-r says sorta makes sense
