Front Splitter Repair or Replacement?

Postby Nas » Tue 31.08.2010, 22:45

My Front Splitter on my Elan was never in the best of condition, it seemed the middle section screw was not holding it in place very well.

Unfortunately now a mis-shaped speed bump has caused my Front Splitter on my S1 Elan to become further damaged so it actually hangs down in the centre and is partially torn.... I always slow down going over speed bumps, probably even more so in the Elan absoloutely gutted that this has happened...

Any ideas on getting the thing repaired? or should I purchase another one? (Price?)

Thanks.

someone has a template for the clamping plates should you need them, the screws will be a bitch to get out because of corrosion.

Geoff knows the sizes for the replacement screws IIRC.

I got a pair from Walkers rubber - very quick and easy to deal with - just phone them up, (01603 415044, or 0044 if outside UK), give them the part number - A4022, and mine arrived within 3 days - half the price of SJ's who don't stock them, but will order from Walkers on your behalf.

Thanks everybody for the information!

I am definately going to call Walker Rubbers in the morning, hopefully all goes well.

Was yours supplied with any sort of fixings eg. screws etc? also did the rubber splitter have any pre-drilled holes?

If you have access to the manuals, check out Parts Guide 10.23A Page 1. I would (and did) contact Geoff for the stainless replacement screws and washers. Depending on the damage, you may be able to fix/straighten out the centre clamp plate. Dowse all the screws with WD40 or similar regularly and well before you start the job. Notwithstanding, be prepared to angle grind them off. The Walkers airdam does not have pre drilled holes. Also, the ends are square whereas my original was slightly trimmed and curved (think I used scissors to follow the original fit).
Good luck,

I have taken mine off today as i am having the car painted on the 14th and i wanted to strip and rebuild it myself...

A couple of questions...Mine is in 1 piece and Dave advises he bought 2 from Walkers "should it be in 2 pieces"

Also has anyone fitted the Laguna splitter and had it colour coded i can't find any pictures, one minute i think good idea the next not...I don't like things "rice" if that makes sense....Feedback would be good before i mess up :?

Right, I've just made the order, very quick professional service.

1st Class Delivery and VAT inclusive = £12.50.

They only had around 8 in stock, and will wait for that stock to diminish before producing another 10 more.

I guess I'll be in touch with the screws and washers.
