As mentioned before water pump is also a possible cause. In my case when idling, temperature wouldn't go down with the fans running at the 3/4 mark. When I raised the revs even slightly it would drop to 2/4 quite fast. It turns out I was running with only 2 of the initial 5 vanes of the pump. It might be worth looking at once you eliminate the easier possiblities, i.e. thermostat.

hi, tks for the advise. i was looking for a waterpump, but seems that the relevant thread were dated quite sometime back.

i keep seeing this P/N - BECK/ARNLEY Part # 1312115 , but it seems to be obsolete. any pointers? tks

If you go onto www.rockauto.com/, then click the red button to start the catalogue - click to select ISUZU, the follow the tree down - click 1991, then IMPULSE RS, then COOLING, then WATERPUMP you will get lots of options between $24.79 and $52.79 (most include the gasket, but the advert will tell you).

They also list thermostats, belts and most other stuff you will need.

You may find that by adding a $3 part, the shipping increases by $20, so it may be better to source smaller parts locally (Thermostat is a fairly standard part, or at least, it is in UK). It is worth a little play around with quantities and stuff to get it as cost effective as possible.

When i did a group buy a few years ago it worked out cheaper overall to get a slightly more expensive water pump, just because it shipped from the same location as the timing belts and thermostats.

Also, it is worth a look at www.retailmenot.com/view/rockauto.com, as they list current discount codes which can save you an extra 5%.
