Best adhesive for weatherstrips

Postby Tannerman » Tue 28.09.2010, 18:00

Hi Guys, i need to know the best adhesive for gluing the tabs onto the new weatherstrips i have bought.

I am using Ali tabs and have glued them on with hi strength Araldite and they have just snapped off one by one.

The Araldite didn't seem to stick to the surface just sit on top.

I have already blown £8 on that crap so good advise would be good and a brand name would be most helpful.

cheers in advance

hi if you have a toolstation nearby i can recomend bondloc plastic weld code.86075. £3.93 i recently used it to glue a aluminium reinforcer to the ram air tube on my motorbike ad it worked well.

I'm surprised Araldite didn't work John, presumably you roughened the surfaces up?

I used Araldite, waste of time and effort  , it's so frustrating having carefully glued it all together and then refitting the window trims etc
only to watch the tabs pop off one by one when you open and close the window a few times
I then used Q Bond, all I can say is, fantastic stuff and worth every penny, my strips were done a few years ago and there still holding strong.
I've used it on many other situations and it never fails to amaze 8)

Looks like a good shout Steve and less than £10 and black and grey filler. Might get around to fixing (and colour matching) my grab handle if it does as good a job as you say.

:) Careful though it's very strong, you won't become unstuck :!:
It's used a lot in the automotive trade.

Cheers guys looks like Q bond then...I did rough the surface up and still just snapped off.

Problem happened when i went to drill the ali tab and it snapped off causing the tab to act like a propeller spinning around with the drill bit taking chunks out of my finger

Never had an issue with Aralditre and iut has always been spot on ....The stuff i got was the shringe stuff bloomin garbage.

thanks again
