Passion may have taken over on financial thoughts though , as your input would suggest this at an expensive way to take the elan into 2011... without it being the elan mk3 thats coming out in 2012?

yes clemo i agree and i would love the new elan2013 I love the sides, but i dont like the top/back, it's not convertible and the biggest thing is it isnt electric or hydro/atomic, which i think is a big mistake considering what the year 2013 symbolises....
The whole industry has been brainwashed by the petrol company suppression....
the tesla was born out of california with the support of many world loving stars!! and the support of many of the 'smaller' car dealerships who refused to be supressed and made a stand....
the tesla is the result of that stand, but we need to keep on pushing ... it's david and goliath....isnt it always!!

:agree: Mass is the enemy.

Maybe a couple of these? There's even a mathematical proof for you: 2 x C5 = C10. Oh, and Clive Sinclair was brilliant (I've still got a Sinclair Scientific that takes more than a second to compute a log) but mad as a hatter.

thanks nicky
i'm impressed with the effort these small companies and designers are putting in
i'll contact them to see how much they could do an elan conversion for....
it's interesting to know how much a person has to pay to have their own car design made too!! for avacar.tv (start-up)
in the future when we've built up a list of customers and a nice money pot!!
:) Mr. Chapman was there once!! just like they are!! :)

Yes. They use regenerative braking - motors become generators dumping energy into batteries rather than producing heat.

I'm intrested in an electric Elan, but you've gotta be barking at that price...

Personally I'd be willing to pay about £500 - 1000, that's nearly quater of the value of the car..

There are several things I would want for my money...

I'd want more speed, more power, cheaper running costs and ease of maintenance...

and there's only one product I can think of that even gets close....LPG and it's been done on the Elan before

Excuse the Pun, but Electric is an non starter for the Elan for the foreseeable future

to tell the truth I'm happy with the little clockwork pull back mechanism fitted to mine... and it turns out the red ones are faster...

I'd end up a pile of flowers at the side of the road :(

and for that price my money would go on "Thunder City" and a trip in a Lightning

That's an English ELECTRIC Lightning....

..I've been there and seen it all - Hunters, Buccaneers, Lightnings - the complete schmeer.

(Did you know the Hunter trainers were configured as trainers for the Buccaneer 'cos there were no dual Buccaneers?)

. Didn't splash out on a flight tho" :(

I think if you really wanted to do an electric Elan, something like this would be the way to go:

http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2010/ ... ric-drive/
http://d1g1taldr1ve.com/d1-tech-specs/

Pack batteries around the sides and where the fuel tank currently is (and up the backbone if you can). This version is only 100hp, but has 400+ ft-lbs torque. You'd accelerate very quickly up to a fairly slow top speed. There is supposed to be a higher power version on the way.
