Removal of perspex cover over rear number plate

Postby nhaynes » Thu 04.11.2010, 20:25

I could do with some help on how to remove the perspex cover over the rear number plate.

I've got myself some nice new number plates. Fitting the new front plate was easy (obviously) but I'm struggling to see how I get to the rear plate without ripping off the persepx cover that appears to be a sealed unit.

Has anyone ever attempted this job (I'm sure many of you have)? If so, I'd appreciate some tips on removal and reassembly. I'm guessing I probably need to cut off the persepex cover then reseal it with some black silicon sealant. Am I correct?

Many thanks,
Neil.
Thanks,
Neil.

pull....slowly......
I started in a corner and worked my way along the bottom edge and then basically lifted it up towards the boot lid
its basically glued on with sikaflex......
you will need to cut the old sealant off and apply new to replace the cover

:-D

Neil,

If you are juust trying to change the number palte and not remove the perspex from its frame then you need to undo the screws that hold the frame on. there should be 4 along the top of the unit that hold the cover in at the top and 4 screws inside the boot under the carpet that hold the base of the cover in place. Once you have all 8 screws remove then the cover should just pop off.

Thanks Andy for preventing me from breaking the seal on the perspex cover to frame. Removal of the 8 self tapping screws was a sinch, even if the 4 lower ones hidden behind the boot (trunk) carpet are a little difficult to find with the end of the power driver. The number plate is fixed with adhesive strip so you need to pop to Halfords or equivalent and get some. I gave the trim cover and surrounding bodywork a clean, I think a spider had made the number plate cover home for the last few years, it must have made a nice greenhouse. Now it looks virtually new, so I am very pleased with the hour or so it took to fit the new number plate and clean the trim.

Thanks,
Neil.

Neil.
