ElanScan and Windows 7 (and Linux)

Geoff Will ElanScan work on Windows 7? I had to replace my computer and this was on it.

I know I'm not Geoff, but I run it on Windows 7...the 64-bit version too.

I have Sanj's cable as well as Geoffs and use them on both the Esprit and the Elan, depends what type of laptop you are using (serial or USB connection) as the one i bought from Geoff is USB its a lot easier to swap between computers, both work well though.

For what it's worth, I am able to run Elanscan under Ubuntu Linux with WINE, at least for looking at files. I have never tried to do acquisition, as I have an ancient laptop with Windows2000 for that purpose. Still Elanscan/WINE/Linux lets me examine the results on my desktop without rebooting. Thought the geekier amongst us might like to know.

I have to say, VirtualBox has made life a lot easier for me over the last couple of years. Does the USB-passthrough feature work well for unix hosts? If so this might be a reasonable option.

I haven't experimented with acquisition and don't use VirtualBox, so you may be pioneering if you experiment. The one thing I've observed as being different, when reviewing a scan, is the values in the main box do not change as you scroll the cursor through the graph. It's a pity because that's a very useful feature when reviewing.

Adam,

I use VB a lot and the only device I've not been able to use directly is my 3G modem, so you should be able to use ES without issue (but as yet untried).

Just got round to installing on my son's Windows 7 machine, installed drivers and elanscan, set COM port and checked the figure that needs to set to 1 and it still won't see the car. error log says no framestart byte received then no reply ? any ideas what is wrong ?
