Piper Exhausts turbo downpipe development thread

The Knox boys being anal (engineer oriented) believe in over testing.
The pipe has undergone:
6- autocross.
2- track.
4- 0 to 100 mph to 0 events. Need good breaks.
Knox would like the final test to be a constant 15 to 20 second full throttle
event, with the turbo pushing 13 to 14 lbs.

This will take place at a track event this July with fall back August.
If properly done we will also know the top end of the vehicle with the mods
we have done. I hope that the July track event with a 1/2 mile straight
gets the job done.
I will say after all the above events, the Swain Tech coating has indeed
cut temp. in half. Bonnet liner and decal are as pristine as the day they were
installed.
I truly believe in this mod and simply do not want the LEC members or our Isuzu RS
partners settle for something that is simply available.

I wish that Wild Englishman roaming the U.S. country side would come to Virginia.
The test drive would be worth a thousand words.

Without some form of testing then there is no real way to know if what you have done has changed anything.
Piper need at a minimum test a car on a dyno with their exhaust system and PCE and then see what differance the new pipe makes if any.
If it is a single pipe system I doubt you are going to see very much of a change and it could even be worse than the standard cast pipe at least with the Knox twin pipe design it smooths the power delivery and increases the power due to the fact the flow off the turbine is smooth and any tubulance from the waste gate is not untill the gases are away from the turbine.
So my feeling is it needs to be a twin pipe design which is supported by what has already been done and the views of Garrett.

i had a word with piper this afternoon.... seems like there is a 'bolt on prototype'' ready
;;;;problem is that they don't have a car so the project is actually on hold untill they have a car to test it on....
if there are volenteers... now is a good time to come forward.
i would do it , especially because my car has been off the road for several months ( for major engine bay refining)
but being in belgium isn't very helpfull for the piper testboys.

They have posted on here before so if they want any help, I am sure they will ask.
Remember that they are a business & deal with lots of different cars so if they are making a product for something like a Scooby which will sell in higher numbers, it makes sense to make that a priority.

I am sure they will want to develop something carefully rather than rush it out & get poor reviews.

They didn't say the project was on hold due to other work.

My point being, do they need a car or not, to test their prototype? I am sure somebody could arrange one.

Without trying to sound argumentative, it sounds a little bit like an excuse....I am sure there is more profit in higher volume customers, but they have a list of currently 21 interested here, which is likley to increase further, once people can see an actual product......

first of all i need to point out that i don't like the fact that i'm like talking behind there (piper's) back. I do not know the real backround of why they are not asking for a car theimselfs here on the forum and all i did was reading into the info they gave me that they needed a car to contiunue...

they told me that they 'had' a car but that the person with the car pulled out because he was affraid of the boostcreep because the car wasn't ported
and piper doesn't have the facilities to porte the wastegate....but after some extensive research and development he was keen to finisch it.
he also told me that the project would be likely to fininsched by the end of the year

after hearing 'the end of the year' i stepped in and posted their need for a car in the hope to maybe finisch it earlier.

Hello all!

Sorry for not updating for a while, it is always busy with several projects on the go.
The current situation is this, We have a prototype part finished, what i don't have is a suitable car to try it on.

I did have a car but the owner was wary regarding the possibility of boost creep occurring and the car didn't have Air-con.

What i need is a standard car, with a standard exhaust AND Air-con. I will require the car to be bought down to us, left in our care for a few days while we test fit the part, in return for this, we will offer a free turbo downpipe, i will also offer a discount on a elan exhaust system if this is of interest to the vehicle owner.

Hello all!

progress update:

I have a car turning up after the weekend for us to start fitting the down pipe to, this will allow us to ensure clearance around the down pipe and make sure there is no interference on any other engine components. We are also fitting one of our exhaust systems to this car, so that will also allow us to ensure good fitment.

Im expecting a good power gain from fitting of this part. Please tell me what you guys have paid for other down pipes from elsewhere to help ensure we offer the best price to you.

I can't recall The exact price, but it was somewhere in the region of £200-£300 that was 6 years ago though.
