bleeding bonding agents

Postby esprit888 » Thu 16.06.2011, 19:56

Has anyone had any contact with the factory regarding the bleed through of the bonding agent used to join the elan panels together? I have read posts from others who have experienced this and would like to know any responses from the factory. Also if anyone has a contact at Lotus i can approach with this as mine is severe and there is no way this should have ocurred without some type of recall or service notice, Any help or guidance greatly appreciated.

Dktahg-

Is your car BRG? Every car I've seen this on (mine included) has been.

I thought this thread was going to be from across the pond from someone unhappy with a bondsman

I got as far as drafting the letter then decided that, as someone else said, its called 'patina' It does appear to be the most obvious on the BRG cars and i would love to see a black M100 as a comparison. As i have sold the car and am looking at yellow as the next colour/color i will in future look very carefully before taking the plunge.

No my car is Calypso Red. I am sure that it could be fixed. I am only having the problem on my hood ( bonnet ) but I am not sure if I have it taken apart and re-glued how to get the right contour.

I have the same problem on my car (Pacific Blue I believe) I have contemplated grinding off the gelcoat on these areas, sealing with glass tissue and re applying the gelcoat. This will have to wait for the respray next year though. Has anyone had the problem fixed?

Was at the St mary's show yesterday and there were 12 elans there and on nearly all there was evidence of it apart from on the cars that had been resprayed. I have it on my BRG :x but didn't notice it until yesterday after spotting it on another car.

I had seen a TV show about the new elise. In the show they followed the build process of the new car. Lotus was using a black bonding agent that looked much the same as the what is coming from my hood/bonnet. If they are using the same product it must still be available. My concern getting the right contour. Is any one aware of any kind of jig that is available to use to control the shape during the bonding process?

Just a note, I had my bonnet resprayed a couple of years back ( after some vandalism). It was flattened completely but came back after a few months.
