I had to mull over this question when my original Elan was rear ended by a Jag.

I considered a few options: Porsche 944, Alfa GTV, many of the 3 series BMWs were great. The Fiat Coupe 5-pot turbo is quite amusing and the newer (up to 2005) 190bhp Celica is surprisingly light and fairly punchy.

Apparently you can plonk the 190bhp 1.8l lump from a Celica/Elise into the newish MR2 Roadster, which weighs less than 1000kg. With some tweaks this might be the basis for a half decent modern Elan replacement, except that you'd still have to make do without a boot!

In the end I gave up and found another Elan. It's not perfect and in hindsight buying a car like this in a rush is a big mistake, but nothing else could quite provide the same package. I'll be very sad when I can't have one anymore.

An iconic car will soon arrive upon our admittedly backword shores. Coming soon to your city, please welcolme yourselves whilst sitting in or even close to the 2013 Hyunday Veloster Turbo. It will have a twin-clutch shifter system allowing a gloriously precise shifting experience with an intuitiviley faster shift-completion-rate transact to have the most gear changes whether shnfting up, down, or sideways. What does that mean? It means our new product are ready New and vissionary technology allow neb to begin bcan now ally

it would have to be a BMW E30 M3 or if money no object an Alfa Romeo 8C but just for the noise as I hear they don't handle very well

if it had to be a ragtop I would get an Audi RS4 convertible

There would only be one replacement for the Elan ----EVORA--- but unfortunately I havent got the funds so it would have to be a Porsche 968 CS or a 968 Sport

Hopefully a convertable Evora will someday grace us with its prensence.

Keeping it affordable either a used Jag convertable or a new V6 Mustang convertable with a few after market handling tweeks.

I think a more realistic approach should be "Which newer Human Being will replace you in the seat of your M100"!
Admittedly i am very late to the party but is their any real altenative that combines the Elans atributes with a heritage that endears such enthusiasm
As the cars age values will rise (i can remember DB6's on bricks and guys driving XK 140's to work as bangers! and i'm not that old-have a thumb through
Classic & Sportscar) then the more costly referbs will become worthwile. If i had the money and a shed i would buy every dog eared M100 icame across
and then forget about them for 10 years!
I might be past it by then but my lads would be happy as crickets.

Mmmmm, I think an Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster would do it for me. If only I had £40,000 to spend on a car to use for high days and holidays!
Oooooh shiney!
